Shop talk politics

Post by Theo »

Hey People,

I find Marks '10 out of 10 Obama supporters are idiots' avatar offensive.

memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=3385

Has this become a republican board with hate and loathing for those that supported our president?

Should I leave now?

I have supported this board financially and emotionally for years and thought we tried to avoid politics. Now the Mods are calling me an idiot? What's up?

If I'm the only Obama supporter on this board I will delete my posts and leave quietly.

Sincerely,

Theo

I'm not a republican but I think his is AVATAR awesome.

Theo, toughen up a little, it's just his opinion and he is expressing his first amendment. You being a liberal offends me but I would never ask to have you removed from the board. One of the awesome things about America is that we all have a right to our own opinions and beliefs. I thought you guys were the party of love and tolerance, so start tolerating things you don't agree with.

There are more political forums on the interweb than you can shake a stick at.

This is a VW forum, get my point?

I may see an offensive bumper sticker driving around town. One that offends my personal beliefs, but I'm not gonna stop driving. I think plenty of people are idiots. I just choose not to express it as I've always been a pretty easy going guy and try to always find the best in people and show kindness. I have come to terms that Obama is one of the most controversial presidents of all time and there will be plenty of extreme opinions for him and against him. I just believe what I believe and anyone else that offends me can just suck a duck. Basically I just don't let it get under my skin. :D

This is not a political board. I'm not comfortable being called an idiot by people I thought were my friends.

So sad.

No problem, lock the thread.

If our board is OK with this type of name calling and political statements in our VW forum I will gladly leave and fine a new home for my projects.

Theo, I don't think you need to leave, this country is just going through another growing event that happens every so often. Be brave and it will solve itself.

Look up the definition of moderator, and the usage related to a debate or "forum".
It is out of line.
Moderators should moderate, and keep their own personal views out of things.

Theo, you need to grow a little thicker skin. We can all be friends who encourage each others' enthusiasm for the hobby even if we don't see eye-to-eye on everything.

As for the 10-of-10 crack in the avatar, nowhere does it say that if you support Obama you are an idiot. What it says, is if you are an idiot, you voted for Obama.

If all trees are green and all trees have leaves, that doesn't make every leaf a tree. Get it?

I've had my little joke now (thanks for publicly embarassing yourself by biting on it, BTW).

I am sorry that you were offended, though, so I will now get rid of that avatar. Love you, man.

...Steve, you may bite me.

I am hungry . . .

Quotes for your consumption:

In politics and religion , a moderate is an individual who is not extreme

Forum moderators, a person given special powers to enforce the rules on an Internet forum, newsgroup or blog.

I guess we need "rules" now...

Please note that I did not start this "flame war". What lit the fire was a liberal complaining about the (admittedly, and unapologetically, anti-Obama) avatar I was using at the time...I'm fairly certain that it was within my First Amendment rights to do so, there was nothing even remotely obscene about it.

Isn't it interesting how liberals are always championing the concepts of diversity and acceptance of others...unless the others happen to hold a non-liberal opinion?

This site is too awesome to leave because of one "offensive" avatar

Marc- I already miss that awesome avatar

Steve- Mods run this place, and they can do whatever they want as long as the site owner is cool with it. The site owner is the ultimate authority here, private forums are not democracies. Also Steve, huge fail when you use wikipedia as a credible source :P
