Kamei Questions

Post by zat69 »

Hey all, I've been on the forum a couple times but never posted so I finally made an account!

I had a question about Kamei spoilers, and I was guessing this would be the best sub forum to ask in.

First, were Kamei spoilers only made for Supers and 68 and up Bugs?

And second, is there any easy way to identify a Super spoiler vs a standard? I'm asking because a local guy has what seems to be an original Kamei spoiler but the part number is 44212 and I can't find anything indicating what it's supposed to fit. Any help would be great!

I doubt there is any difference between a super and standard spoiler.

There's definately not with the fibreglass version that I have, even the bumpers are the same between standards and supers
The front bumper on my 74 super is from a 76 standard and prior to that I;ve had a 74 standard and a 71 super bumpers on it

Thanks for the reply, I was pretty certain that the bumpers were the same so I didn't know why it'd matter but I guess I'll find out when I try to mount it if I get it

If you order one in one of the group buys, the form asks you to specify whether you have a Standard Beetle or a Super Beetle.
I got the one for a Super Beetle.

They are different for supers and standards, alltough the standard one will fit a super.

They can be identfied by the model number ( if it's a original Kamei spoiler).
The model number 44210 is for the super, the 44211 is for the standard.

I think the difference is that the super version is a bit wider.

See for more information: Kamei Spoiler documents

I've got a standard version on my super, I think it looks good. It makes the front wheel look wider.. :-)

As I said in the earlier post the overall width of spoiler is the same between standard and super.
Supers and standards use the same front bumper, the difference is the cut outs to clear the bumper mounts are further apart for supers.

Ah...that explains why I had to cut a little bit out of spoiler to clear the bumper mounts.

It wasn't much though, only a little corner of about 2 cm size.

I just compared some pictures of 1303's with a kamei spoiler found on the internet with mine.
I see no difference in length.

I think I have to change the text of my web page.. :)
