I will sometime in the near future put Porsche brakes and rims on my 71 SB. I just haven't decided which ones or anything yet. But I am doing the body work right now. So how wide of fenders should I put on? What is a safe estimate of how wide they'll need to be? I was thinking 2" in front and 3" in back. Any advice or experience?

Well, there are many variables that will need to be figred into this problem. It will depend on what size wheels and tire you will be using and you will need to figure your offsets as well. I am doing the same thing, but have decided to do what I know first, and then figure the fender size after. My Porsche 944 four wheel disc brakes just arrived today. My tires showed up today as well (Falken Ziex-502's 205/40-17 front and 215/40-17 rear). I will break the brakes and suspension parts down and clean them up in the next couple days. Then I will get to work on the conversion over the weekend. I have Porsche Cup III's ordered and should receive them within the next few days. Once I have done this conversion, I will be happy to give you more details.

For the record, I have been told that the wheel and tire combo that I have bought will fit under the stock fenders. My wheels are 17x7.5 with 53mm offset on front and 23mm offset for the rears (or was it the other way around?) and was told that I would need 15mm spacers for the front.

Like I said, there are many things that will come into play on this conversion, so I thought it would be better to do the things that I know I want, and then get the exact fenders I need when I am done. I hope I didn't run you in too many circles on that.

I agree with Coachreed. IF you purchase your wheels and tires 1st you can tailor your fenders to fit. I have 18"x8" and 9.5" tires with 225/35 and 255/35 tires mounted on my 67. My front beam is 2" narrower and my fenders are all steel that have been widened 1" & made to retain their stock appearance. If you purchase those wide fenders it may be wider than you need & then you would to install spacers to fill out the fenders.
