fitting 17,s on 65 beetle

Post by am_lee72 » Wed Sep 13, 2000 7:38 am

is it possible to fit 17x7 rims in the front wheel well? i know i'll have to narrow the beam. a friend of mine narrows linkpin beams but i forget how much he can narrow them. has anybody used l/p beams with big whells,or am i stuck getting a b/j beam?
how much you guys narrow your b/j beams?
thanks

The linkpin should not be any different from a balljoint in terms of underfender clearance. I had 16"x6" wheels under stock fenders with a 2" narrowed b/j beam with room to spare. I now have 18"x8" on the same beam with steel fenders that are 3/4" wider than stock.
I think your main problem like most will be inner fender clearance when you turn your wheels full lock.
