924 vented disc brakes...

Post by Poor Realist » Sat Mar 31, 2001 7:13 pm

Hiya. I found a complete set of 1989 924 Turbo vented disc brakes and calipers in the boneyard. Is it possible to put this onto my 1971 type 3?

Any pages out there describing this conversion?

I don't think they will last, so let me know!

Don't quote me on this but I think the late modle 924 used 5 lug 944 brakes. I'm not sure thow. If the are 5 lug grab them if they are cheap. if they are to same old 924 4 lug VW pattren. they're nothing more than glorifide ghia brake.

They are 5 lug. Anyone else out there able to confirm or deny?

They will cost me ~$50-60/wheel.

924S has early 944 brakes.

There's no such thing as an 89 924 Turbo. The last full production year for it was 82 with 83s for a few countries only. It was discontinued due to the introduction of the 944.
What brakes do you have?

Do they have any bugs, or type 3's in the yard also? The wrecking yards in my area have porsche's and VW's next to each other... Take the brakes off the porsche and try 'em on a bug... that should give you an idea!

Hope it helps,
Bobby

There wasn't a 924 Turbo (931) that year. You have found a 924S, suspension and brake wise it's the same as the 944. I have no idea about adapting to a Type III, try MBT.
$200 for the complete set of suspension and brakes is a good price.

As I heard they might even bolt right up to the spindle...At least early Porsche 911 calipers do (c-c measurement is 76mm on the 911 and the late T3) so it might jut be that they fit...You would have to make some kind of bearing adapter 'cause the Porsche uses bigger bearings. I think that if you look att the pages where the conversion is done on the T1 you'll discover tahat it'll work about the smae way when doing it to a T3. Performance Ghia, Superbeetlesonly are good places to start. Buy'em and bolt'em...I would however like to state that I have not done this conversion myself and I might not be the man to say "Go ahead" but I still dont think that there will be a problem. Tell us how it works out!
