The carbs need special seals to avoid leakage on boost...Cb did this mod at one time but last time I spoke w/ them theybno longer performed this service for the Dell...Understand they now do the Weber IDF series tho....Also the jets needle and seat and e tubes are next in line for a change ...now look into the Booster rings...Get the CB book!!! 22.00 ....

The carbs fit the manis but the car needs to be punched about a bit for them to fit often....The Dells with the funky manifolds are a no body pumelling deal....

John Maher converted my DRLA's to blow thru spec using a kit from
www.dellorto.co.uk

Here a link to John's site, in the works section

Hope this helps

www.dellorto.uk.co of whatever it is, I eamiled them and they said that the a kit to do a pair of DRLA carbs is about $60 but you have to do some machining on the throttle shafts. I think I ll stick to a pull thru for now. I figure the cost of machining them is going to be crazy anyway. I guess I can always switch later.

Eurocarb can supply drla 40 dells, turbo ready for £450 (+ VAT which you guys in the US don't pay) this is the carbs only no linkage or manifolds.

I've turbod over 25 VW's using both sealed and unsealed Delortos in both single and dual applications. You WILL get some throttle shaft seepage of fuel on standard carbs, but, close attention with carb cleaner after each use will prevent stickyness and dirt & grime collecting. I've seen a couple of guys using Webers, but, in talking to them....any modifications were "secret". I say, run what you have and use it as a learning experience.

Seeing as Both Maser and Lotus used the blow through Dell in OEM ,it seems that it can be made to work...Does anyone have a schematic needed to do the machine work needed on the shaft/seal mod? Thank you

Magoo, I am currently machining the shaft for my dell, as soon as i get it back from the machine shop i will post some pics and dimentions for all to apply to thier setup. The machining will not cost the earth and it seems to be a safe insurance against fuel leaks. You mentioned the needles in an earlier post, what type of mods are needed? I thought that the shafts where the main concern. The cb book says nothing about the needles.

Boneshaker- About how much did the machining end up costing? Cost is my main factor right now. Let me know how it turns out.-Brian

Boneshaker..I was refering to the needle and seat, make sure you read all the info on jetting and the mod rings in the book ...The number one reason for turbo mishaps is improper jetting and the engine going lean,, even one or two seconds of lean condition under full boost can fry your motor ... work up to big boost slowly .. a melted engine is a distinct and unplewasant possibilt ..., Good luck

dellorto 36's.........i hear they flow like Weber 40's...but would they be decent enough to feed a 1.8 Type 4 under boost?
