What Kind of Fuel Pressure Regulator for Carbed Beetle?

Post by Jim Ed »

What kind of fuel pressure regulator should I use on my beetle with carburetor?
I was thinking of
Chirco Fuel Pump Pressure regulator 1-5 to 8-5 psi part no CPR129274G

TIA!

The best fuel pressure regulator is none at all. Buy a pump that outputs the right pressure so you don't need a regulator. Carter makes a quiet rotary pump that will work, P60504.

Brocar 34PICT3 and https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/1131270 ... t-quality/

I saw a pic on thesamba of a fuel pump push rod that somehow went through thee spacer flange and got jammed in the lower distributor drive shaft. It made me paranoid. I was seriously considering converting to an electric fuel pump set-up.

Normal standard for the engine driven pushrod style pumps is none. I would get it running first, then see if you have a problem.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

I used this set up to feed my twin 34ICT Webers.

A filter, a Facet fuel pump and a Sytec adjustable pressure regulator.

I run this pump and filter w/o a regulator. To dual IDF's and never any issues.

Maybe someday I'll make a nice mounting platform like yours.

Stock carb and stock fuel pump work perfect together.

All fine if you have a stock carb to feed and room for a stock pump.

Running 3psi. Are you using a daughter to verify pressure?

Huh, what?

Me, I'm going off the specs of the pump and the fact I haven't had any problems after 2 seasons of driving. At some time I'd like to add a regulator and a return line just to ensure the coolest fuel to carbs.

LOL,you know your daughter has to verify all pressure differences. freaking auto correct.. IF if it running good don't sweat it. Anything other then stock I would put a gauge on it so you know what it really is.

I didn't know I had a daughter...but I would like to add a gauge at some time, or at least put one on it to check just for piece of mind. The isolators between carbs and manifolds def helped with heat soak in the heat of summer.

To answer the question, Holly makes a very good low pressure regulator, the dial type regulators in the above picture can be hit or miss as they have a history of leaking and inaccurate pressure indicators. If you go with the Holly you will also need a quality pressure gauge too.
