Keep the 1600 as a back-up motor and start collecting parts for the big one :wink:
being one fixed income :oops: seems it took me about 5 or 6 years to get my 2276 going.
Got a lot of good deals on used parts too(swap meet) like a nice Scat crank & carillo rods for $400 :wink:

Well what I was hoping to do is use the 1600 to really learn turbos and tuning before spending the bucks on a big build. Also I think I might go FI so if I do that I want to learn it on this engine as well.

does anyone have any idea about holset turbochargers ?? would a holset like HX30 or HX35 would be suitable ?? I see that they mention the housing sizes as cm^2 , but i couldnt find any more information.. How is that translated to A/R sizing ??

I don't know for sure but I don't think they would be a cm2. That would be tiny. I believe my 12 valve diesel dodge truck I had was an HX 35 and it wasn't small. I bet one would work great for the power you are trying to make though.

You want the one with the 9R cast in the turbine inlet. It is the smallest and will boost earlier.

I just posted a brand new T04E 57 Trim in the Misc For Sale forum. American made specifically for a 2 liter engine.

As far as the Holset turbos, the HY35 is the one Art is referring to it is found on 99 to 02 Dodge Cummins trucks with an automatic trans. It has a 9 cubic cc exhaust housing where the HX35W found on 24V manual trans trucks and older 12V trucks can have from 12 to 16 cubic cc exhaust housings which would be harder to spool with a small engine.

buguy i have seen that engine before as well... However this guy use it for drag racing... I guess his engine is working far too high on the rpm band..
I will also try to find some information about HY35 turbocharger..

He does use it for drag racing but I read he does some street driving with it.
I would think it would be tough to make one work well. I mean they are designed to go on a turbo diesel truck that weighs 10,000 pounds and only turns 3500 rpms in a 5.9L. Why not get something that was designed to run at least a similar displacement, rpms, and fuel?

Diesels use much smaller turbos relative to engine size. What you're sizing the turbo for is power, not engine size.

Yeah maybe. I seem to remember the HX35 I had on my 12 valve flowed 575 cfm. The smaller version I have no clue.

That's about right......

A 1641cc at 8000 rpm and 85* F IAT's would need 31 lbs. boost and 616 CFM to make 450 crank hp which translates to 15% loss on 392 whp.
They ran around 30 lbs. boost if not more.

From what I read the HX35 is good for over 500 hp.
