Stroker crank & small Cs/Ps???
Has anyone ever built an engine with say:
a 74MM stroker C/W crank with forged 88MM machine-in Cs/Ps??
Or even smaller 85.5MM forged Cs/Ps??
(You know how there are 90.5MM "A" pistons then "B" pistons? Well, the "B"s are for stroker cranks right?? Are these only required for stroker cranks of 78 and more?? I've never seen 88MM "B" pistons so would a 74MM crank work ok??)
What kinda engine would this give me??
I imagine lots of low end power right??
Would this be the kinda engine for everyday city and hi-way driving, but with a nice boost in HP???
I wanna a small displacment engine for small engine class racing, but will have to be my daily driver as well. Where should I get my stroker crank from if I do this?? I've seen 'em from $250 to $1000!!! Any comments on where you guys have bought storker cranks from for a good price??
Oh yeah, any Cons on 88MM MACHINE-IN Cs/Ps??
Also, I live in Riverside, CA. anyone know of a reputable VW shop to build my engine for me?? (I would love to do it, but live in apartments, IT SUX!!) Thanks in advance!!

Stroker crank & small Cs/Ps???
First you should use Rimco in santa ana. second you could use "B" pistons on a 74 stroke the c/r would be about 4.8 to 1 .A waterboxer crankshaft costs about $150 WWW.veemotors/co.uk/ you can build these motors for cheap.

Try looking over at Jake Raby's website...http://www.sevwc.com/raby'saircooledsuper_1600.htm
Drop him a line about his Super 1600, sounds like a nice setup if you're looking to stay with something like stock displacement, but you want more driveability, and torque.

Stroker crank & small Cs/Ps???
Thanks for the help guys. I've decided to go with an 1800, (88X74). I'm gonna go with aircooled.nets stage 3 heads, dual kads w/ berg linkage, and either an E100 or E110 cam, not sure yet (what do you guys suggest). Thanks again.

Use the 100 cam ,kadrons will idle better than the 110 cam.watch the thin wall 88s they s**k.

I thought 88MM machine-ins would be a good choice. Are the thinner or thicker than than 90.5MM Cs/Ps?? Also, what if I went with 87 slip-ins?? Any pros/cons?? Thanks.

Go for the 90.5 they are "thick" and machining will cost the same.Slipins are too thin on the wall and can break off ruining all your hard work. When I floor it the last thing I want to worry about is piston walls breaking off.Steve

IMO, the 88 machine ins are a waste of $ and effort. The Berg preachings have scared the World so they are afraid of 94s, WHICH ARE VERY RELIABLE. I have customers with over 90K miles on them, one that is running 11:1 compression and pump gas. If you are going to spend $ on going fast, at least make it easy by getting some displacement for your $.

As l understand it, using machine in 88mm pistons and cylinders should be as reliable if not better than original. the combination of the 74mm crank with the machine ins should be ok, l have a 74mm crank with the forged 85.5mm p's & c's with 8:5:1 cr and dual ict's on my super, and the engine proves to be more than ok.
My next project will be using the same combo with the 88mm p's&c's. and the lighter flywheel and bigger carbs.
Don't let the hype fool ya. a small but well built 1.7 or 2.8 engine can be more reliable and more enjoyable than most think. Besides, why spend all the crazy moeny on the big parts to have to do rebuilds every summer?
Just my 2 cents.

A while back l had the help of the forum in building the ultimate 1.6 engine, and it went from there.....
