ELECTRIC BEETLE
This is a 1968 Electric Beetle, which was converted to operate on 100% electric power in 1979. The cost of charging the batteries is 2 cents per mile. It has three 120/240 Volt built in chargers. Top speed 85 MPH, range 65 miles. The battery pack is 144 Volts, controller 500 Amps, battery capacity 17 kWh. Maximum acceleration power is 72,000 Watts, which produce 61 HP. Battery heaters improve the performance and range. Electric space heaters provide heat through the heating and window defroster vents.

Re: ELECTRIC BEETLE
Reminds my of my '70 electric bus I had in the mid-90s. It had a peak 40 horse motor and 14 batteries (12 for the drivetrain and 2 for the stereo and lights-400W sound system). Cheapest, quietest, cleanest car I ever had.

You Don't Need No Stinking Gas
I have several pics of improvements to my Electric Beetle.
See how you can convert a Beetle to run on electric power.

Re: ELECTRIC BEETLE
There's an electric baja bug for sale in Jamul CA. It's been posted for awhile. Pics aren't too detailed, but interesting to look at.

I had my 1968 Baja style Volkswagen Bug converted to electric by Big Fish Motorsports here in San Diego. It plugs directly into a wall outlet at your house and is capable of up to 40-50 miles per charge (untested and depending on terrain)
144 volt system using 42 Calb 100AH Lithium batteries ($5500)
Advanced DC FBI-4001A Electric Motor
Curtis Motor Controller PMC 1231C
PFC 1500 Charger for 144v
Xantrex Battery monitors volts/amps/charge
Smart car seats...no rear seat but I have it if you want it.
New paint job and rear shocks.
Some dings and dents as for its age...minor TLC if you care about perfection
It runs but there is no clutch. I shift on the fly. I have a rear cowling, front shocks, side steps, and a new speedometer cable that haven't been installed yet. This was a project car that I no longer have time for and need the money for the bills. Serious inquiries only. I don't need help selling so don't ask. I have around $12K into it...only asking $10K OBO.
