rear brake hoses

thingers,

i am putting new rear brake hoses on my thing. i have not found any that fit. 113611775E is supposed to work but it is definately too short for me.

if anyone has replaced their rear hoses recently i would appreciate knowing what part # you used and where they were purchased.

Scott try www.thingsunlimited.com or www.thingparts.com . When I widened my beam and lengthened my rear arms all hoses were too short. I could have bought the longer stainless braided ones at the buggy supply shop but discovered that if I straightened my old ones and relocated their brackets they would reach. Thats what I did. i was hoping someone would have the VW part number. i don't believe any hoses with 181 number s are being made, thay are all some other part that interchanges. the problem i have at the moment is that the ones that are supposed to fit do no - they are about 10mm too short.

volks,

just though i'd bump this up, as i still have no definitive answer as to what stock vw part will work. the lines that came on the car are the originals, they are 250mm long. the replacement everyone quotes as being the replacement is 235mm long. i have some of the 235mm hoses and they are too short - big surprise...

is there a stock rubber hose that will work, anyone? is there something odd about my car that the replacement part everyone else uses is too short?

Scott as I related earlier after i added longer rear arms to my Thing the hoses were too short. I assumed this to be very easy to solve. I took my hose to a GOOD VW parts house and handed it over the counter asking for something just a little longer. After a few minutes the counter person returned with negative results. I could not believe it. When I questioned him suggesting that perhaps a bus line would be longer he replied that their lines are catagorized by length and the one given to him was the same as the longest one they stocked.
As I said I found that relocating the bracket allowed the old line to reach the cylinder. I`m sure there are many places that will make up any desired length upon request. Good luck. Bob Ingman

The Big name Thing part sellers are selling pn# 113 611 775E at a length of 210 mm for under $15 each. I have a set of stock thing lines in my parts bin that i will measure soon. The front lines have a Thing specific part number but you can use after 67 Ghia lines in the place of that Thing part number. I prefer stainless steel wiht teflon center lines and the cost is less than twice the price of crappy brazilian parts. Larry's Offrioad carries good lines a a fair price. K-Mann

ETKA calls for 113 611 775E as the rear brake hose and lists it as 240mm long. CIP1 also lists this part for the thing but says it is 235mm long. ETKA lists a 211 part number for earlier years that is 270mm long. the hoses that came off the car are 250mm long and fit perfectly. ouch, my head hurts...

the 775E hoses i have are NOT 235mm long, they are closer to 220mm, so i guess what we have here is a manufacturing issue more than anything - the 775E hoses i have were just made too short, and the old hoses that came on the car were made too long.
