dished T4 to flat top

As the 94 flat top pistons seem to be a bit hard to get cheaply whats to stop you turning the ridge off the top of the piston to make a flat top then skim the top off the barrels to regain a tight deck?

Am I missing something?

1). the top of the piston can get too thin, compromising strength and eventually a failure like a hole in the piston.

2). The cylinders become narrow which makes the overall engine narrower. It may or may not be a problem for your cooling tin and for exhaust.

find some 94mm 914 spec pistons... They have a 3cc dish Vs. a 13cc dish.

I know the 914 pistons are better but there aren't many over here because most 914's went to the USA.

if the piston isn't cut any further than the bottom of the dish it wouldn't it still be quite thick?

The only problem I could see is how close the rings would be to the top

The other option would be to use T1 pistons

Exactly. Cutting down a dish to a flat top does little to the center thickness/strength issue. Cutting a dome to a flat top...is a bit more of a problem (first question would be why you would want to screw up a good domed piston) but yes....you don't want to get too close to the rings. If you end up with the outside circumference being about the same distance from teh top ring as a piston that was born flat top...it should be ok. Ray

Vacation?

Any trip to a foreign country is interesting to me....but today was an a*s-whipping. My chemical shipment missed the boat....so I had to drive down (not myself)...to a printing supply in the most polluted screwed up zone in most of asia. I tried to get the 90 pesos of chemical ($1.85 thereabouts) delivered.....but they wanted 24,000 pesos to deliver it

. Thats about $436.00. For that cost.....I could buy a factory here.

Yeah...the German guys that have been here for two months working on the etching system.....show up to breakfast at the restaurant...with their live-ins A live in girlfriend runs about $225 a month. That covers everything...cooking...cleaning....plumbing work...."pipe-cleaning"

. The problem.....as one of the German guys found out, is that how do you escape the country with anything you own intact....when its time to go home. The guy came in to work...left on the noon flight ...with no money or plastic. Just a passport a ticket and a briefcase.....hee hee hee .

Oddly enough....JAKE....this sountry would be a great one to build ....say.....an aluminum CASTING plant?

. There is a highly educated population. We had over 2000 engineers apply f or work in one month. The going rate...sadly...is about 1 Million peso's per year.....about $18 or less. Our main process engineer has experience in numerous smelters...including electric arc copper and aluminum smelters. just some thoughts. Ray
