912 EMS update- driving report

Post by MASSIVE TYPE IV »

Well its been 6 weeks since the EMS was installed on the 912. After the first week and a half or so I removed the laptop and have only hooked it back up to show the system off!

The drivability is great, the heads are 50 degrees cooler than with carbs, (even with a leaner mixture) and the engine is doing great! My mileage has remained about the same at 32-35 MPG.

I have put almost 2800 miles on the car in this amount of time and I have nothing but kudos for Dave's system!

I have experienced ZERO problems with the system!

I talked to Dave yesterday and he is looking at a 4 to 6 week wait before the units will be available. We will be his direct reseller of the systems and electronics and I cannot wait to outfit our engines in mass quantities with this system!

Anyone wanting more info on this system emails us at [email protected] and we'll add your name to the email list that we plan to start very soon. We probably will start a listserv to discuss the systems and allow guys to talk about the system in private off the normal forums. This will be a great form of support when guys start installing systems and need advice!

IT ROCKS!

It looks as if the email address has an extra 'r' in it.
'infor' @ aircooledtechnology.com. Is that correct?

(is fixed now)

Jake,
Does this require a special cam to be optimized?

Thanks,
Jason

Yes, just like any purpose built engine. It is not a necessity but the correct combo will make mucho more power and be easier to tune.

Remind me to ask you more about it when we go over the details on my engine.

By the way I sent a check out to you today.

Thanks,
Jason

cool. That will be something we'll take into account for sure. I have 11 people on the wait list right now so it'll be a couple of months before we evebn get to the proposal part of the deal.

Should work fine... BAS makes a good Bus system already anyway.

The main emphesis on this system is a cheaper, well performing system for a Beetle/Ghia/356 the main cars that get TIV conversions.

Hmmm, I thought that your first post above would suggest that the first complete EFI systems were meant to be used on OEM injection type IV's with the original cooling, like in 912E's, 914's, 411/412's, buses with original injection type IV's en type 3's with a type IV conversion...

Thanks,
Walter

Wally,
It was developed for both purposes. Thats why he made the system use a variety of TPS sensors and still kept it with a dizzy for timing signal.

Above we were talking about headers- wally, not the EMS.... LOL

Ah, sorry, my bad

I just got exited about the possibility of an semi-original injection system on a type IV engine for under the tight engine lid space of a type 3!
That would do away with the problems of never short enough manifolds for IDF's in the type 3 and the noise of the (too low for proper induction also) K&N filters...

I would like to know a price for that too, wouldn't even have to have ignition control included, just the brain and the wiring loom for a 2056 with 914 2,0 heads would do.

Thanks,
Walter

Dave's EMS would fit like a glove in a TIII set up. You could use a stock plenum for smaller applications or our bigger plenum that we are working on for larger apps.
