Another issue is replacing the shifter bushing.
I replaced the bushing and trying to push the shift rod past new bushing and found it amazingly hard to do. So do I just apply pressure of tap it with a hammer?all good and lubed.

You must be missing the factory connector. I've never been able to find one, Just splice female connectors onto your wires. Also, the shifter bushing is a really tight fit. Muscle it in without damaging the bushing.
