So I've searched and searched and searched but can't find any info on what I'm about to ask. First, let me say I have a 1974 vw bus with the 1.8 type 4 engine and pretty sure it's busted (rod bearing clatter). So I have an old 1.8 G60 out of a corrado and thought hmmm why not throw it in the bus? The car is long gone so no ecu or wiring harness but I do have a Holley efi sniper unit in my bug and it will fit on a carb intake manifold for a rabbit/golf 1.8. I'll just mock up new inlet pipes if I decide to add the G60 supercharger (stock hp is 158 with the s/c and like 115 without). So here's my question...how would I check timing with a strobe light? The G60 engine will be mated to the stock trans via a Kennedy adapter so no inspection hole like on a stock golf trans to strobe the timing marks. Any suggestions before I dive off in this conversion and it be a waste of time....thanks in advance.

Yeah, what he said. Pull the timing belt cover off, line up #1 at TDC with the distributor and the little dot on the cam pulley with the valve cover, then put your paint mark on the crank pulley and the block.
