There is a lot of difference in strength and loading potential between screws and bolts, even thin dia. bolts, and that point, where the change is needed, is not always that obvious. Screws are usually fully threaded so they don't do as well in shear applications as bolts might do plus the thread count can make a difference too.

The top pix was before I decided to go with a bus trans and the second one was when the bus trans was installed. With the bus trans the shear loading of the turning brakes, while not always great (but can be  ), was a big factor in the choice of methods of clamping.

This could have waited, but I couldn't resist.

Hood handle on. Contemplating ways to clean up the VW emblem. Is that actual chrome?

Some are just aluminum... polish up easy.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I'll get a tiny brush while I'm out today.

edit: I'm being told on the type-3 list that some of these emblems got some black paint in the grooves. Should spiff it up some. We'll see.

Meanwhile, ECU mounted. Powers up too!

I got some electronic component screws coming to secure the bluetooth adaptor.

Today was 1st install of the engine day. Naturally the rubber pads on my ATV jack were jacked up and without them the jacks cross tube interfered with the Berg sump. So I had to do some wood work.

With the engine in I torqued the fan bolt. Put the trans in 4th, set the e-brake and pull hard on a big bar. Done.

While I was doing that the delivery guy rolled up. What do we have in the big box? The CSP Python exhaust muffler from Germany!

So one of the reasons for the trial install was to see what the clearances are for the fuel in and out. I'm going to need to make a bulkhead pass-through.

A Good day. Now for a shower and sit down with the wife and a movie.

Well, poo. The mustache bar brackets don't line up with the bar.

When I do that, one side is always winds up shorter. Pretty soon I look like Adolf. :D

But seriously, I didn't think there was any room between the mustache and the shroud. But it looks like there's some room. Thanks!

I've been collecting this braided loom (multiple sizes) for when I get serious about wiring the buggy. Several sizes available and rated for 257F. Shrink tubing or good quality electrical tape to seal the ends and maybe a few spots along the length. Happy with the little bit I've used so far. Direct link on Amazon didn't work, search wording below on Amazon:
Alex Tech 25ft - 1/2 inch Cord Protector Wire Loom Tubing Cable Sleeve Split Sleeving

I'm told this shrink wrap works well and looks pretty stock.
