i have a '70 beetle, and want to set up my stereo system after i tackle all the rust (restoring it while using as daily driver, cant have a DD without decent tunes).
i am in australia so i'd prefer suggestions to be brands and items i can actually purchase in a store (dont like buying something i cant see first i.e net shopping)
so here comes the no-idea statement of the world.
id like to put subs in the rear parcel tray, speakers in the door cards, and inserts on each side of the back seat (where your elbow is roughly). and do i need tweeters ?
id also like to keep it as subtle as possible, putting the head unit inside the glovebox etc. so no crazy fibreglass installs.
so people with some knowledge of audio equipment. enlighten me
Help a complete noob choose audio set up

i've been an audiophile way too long LOL
if just want a good crisp and clear sound and arent looking to blow the doors off the dickhead in the skyline beside u at the lights a good qaulity deck, some splits up front and some 6x9s in a parcel tray u cant go wrong with
ive worked in car audio stores and i reckon for the best bang for buck deck u cant beat JVC and speakers is just a matter of personal preference i go with kicker/pioneer/alpine but if u can afford it definatley go splits over coax upfront even the cheapest splits crap all over top quality coaxs
heres my system
nothing real flash but its good for 137.2dB
JVC mp3 head
kicker splits
alpine 6.5" rear
kicker impulse subs
VDO 600w amp
power acoustic 300w amp
1.5 farad capacitor

I personally recommend an Alpine head unit as I believe they are probably one of the better head units available.
As far as subs go it you dont want to break your bank or blow out your windows, I enjoy the Rockford Phosgates 10" P2's. They hit clean and quick. They still thump hard, but wont kill you or your passanger.
I have Rockford all the way around and it sounds great. I run four 4x6's to in the doors and two over my subs in the parcel tray. Two tweaters under the dash. Then the two P2's in the parcel tray. I push the P2's with a 1200watt rockford amp. One of there older amps.
My setup is no competition setup or anything. But I can hear it clearly doing 80 on the interstate and that is all that matters to me.
There you go,

If you want to save space and weight, go with a JL Audio W7 series sub. I have an 8W7 (8 inch) in an extended cab pick up and it hits hard in a ported box. Most people think I have a 12...yes, they are that impressive. Lot of power required. I have a Phoenix Gold amp running 600w to it. for the 10" they require around 800 and the 12 around 1000w minimum. One 10" will be WAY more than enough for a bug. Pricy though...you can get a deal on ebay..guessing around 350-400 for a 10"

Pioneer makes a quality product for the buck
I have two Pioneer head units, and will continue to use this brand until Eclipse comes out with some better products.
For sound quality, I prefer separates to 2 or 3 way speakers, as they tend to provide clearer sound due to the crossover needed, Polk is my brand of choice.
Kicker and JL audio make decent subs for the money, make sure you have an amp that will power them enough.
