My 68 irs baja

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I wish it was done already but it will probably take a few years to build it how I want it. I'm thinking 10 grand should cover it.

Be careful. I've found that sometimes when I hold out to build things how I want them....they never get built. Doing it right the first time is important but be careful to not let it sidetrack the project. Until then...lots of pics please!!!

Get busy, have fun. Plan the build, really sit down and figure out where and how you plan on driving this and then figure driving it a little harder. As far as the money goes, yeah just don’t keep receipt, just don’t.

Here is the motor I picked up yesterday. Looks real clean. Had the ecu, harness, header, and transmission.

How many miles are on it? Is the wiring and ECU already set up to run stand alone or you have to get it modified? Looks like a real good start.

The guy I bought it from says low mileage. It was pulled out of the car as is so I need to get it converted. It looks real good. Still had the trans, motor mount, header and throttle cable on it. Next I will start pulling the rear suspension apart for a rebuild and prep.

I have a few other questions. As far and the ecotec, Anybody rework the ecu wiring harness other than the places on line that are between 400 to 1000 dollars? As far as the rear suspension, I am thinking about solid motor mounts. I am sure the stock mounts might not last real long with the ecotec motor?

I cannot help with the ECU, as far as mounts go, stock mounts probably not but fabricating your own with or without some give is your call. You will find positive and negative with both.

So I found out that the excuse and harness won't work for my baja. They can't tune it. The place said I need a new excuse and harness. Suggestions? Thinking about mega squirt. Anybody have any input

Do you mean ECU? I know a guy with a stock ECU that was flashed, but had a failure and ended up getting another. He carries a spare in his car know just in case. I will call him to find out where he got his. What model Ecotech is that?
