Chenowth Light Strike Vehicle

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Had some more time this weekend to work on the car. I was having issues with the clutch. The pedal would travel about an inch and a half and freeze up. At first I thought it was due to the adapter and flywheel we have. Maybe a frozen Pressure Plate but that seemed unlikely. So we pulled the engine back out hoping to find some numbers on the flywheel that I could match up. This adapter came from a Mendeola car. Anyway, even with the engine out the pedal would freeze so that ruled out the previous theory. I decided to get back to that and mount the radiator, that went well but since I am a teacher I thought it was time for junior to learn how to bend and flare brake lines so I accidentally cut through the clutch line with the grinder. Oops. Well, we made a new clutch line and with no fluid the pedal moved freely through its travel. At that point I decided to swap in one of my spare Jamar clutch slaves ( I keep 2 on hand since they suck) and don’t you know it works. I guess the old CNC gave up the ghost after sitting for years. So we stuffed the engine back in and mounted it with the hanging mounts that I made. Next, onto the floor, finish mounting the seats and then wiring. Also will need to hit up my good buddy Getrdone for some custom exhaust work. Seems hanging the engine how I did got in the way of the headers.

Sounds like my Kawasaki project! I built a swing arm brace - didn't design enough clearance for the chain. Had to cut it apart and reweld it. Finally test fit the exhaust, and the brace interfered with the muffler mount. Sometimes building custom stuff has it's hiccups...

So true. Clint said it would be pretty easy to modify the existing headers but we will see. Sometimes it’s easier to start from scratch. I really love how Wayne’s exhaust came out but that’s a little out of my price range for this car.

So far the springs are what was on it, somewhere around 200 over 200. Rear torsions are the same. Have rear shocks on order but they had to built so hopefully soon. Hoping to have the floor done this week and then start on wiring.

Not too much, been picking away at the wiring and plumbing stuff. Been super busy at work and I’m not really sure what a weekend is anymore but getting there. It really so true that the last 10 percent takes 90 percent of the time.

I know a guy who has a potato gun that launches 1/2 inch thick two foot long steel darts!!! He wraps them in a diaper like a Sabot round and fires them thru junk cars and it will go in one side and out the other. It's scary and has some serious recoil.
