Rallycross.... HooptieX style

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Spent the day making laps and meeting some new friends. My first lap was 2:58, by the end of the day I had it down to 2:10, not bad for two tons of american steel on a ghetto lift kit. Track was maybe 1.5 miles in length.ImageImageImageImageImageImage

That course looks like you’d need a cutting brake to help out.

Took the car to eastern Oklahoma for another Gambler 500 event a few weeks ago. All went well with the car, considering both front shocks weren't doing their job!

Ordered KYB MonoMax F150 4 x 4 rear shocks(red set) and got them installed, not sure if the Bilstein F150 front shocks will fit, I think they will rub the inside of the coil springs. I may have clearance at ride height but not at full droop.ImageImageImageImageImageImage

I bought another one....

This one is going to be a rallycross specific car. The track is in Ardmore, Oklahoma. The monthly events are put on by a group out of Dallas/Ft Worth. Currently stripping it down as much as possible. The electric front seats felt like they were about 300 lbs each!ImageImage

It's on a diet... carpet, headliner, window regulators, stereo, door lock solenoids, seven fuses and a boat load of wiring. And what ever else I can find! Exhaust is next, Amazon just dropped off two Thrush mufflers.

First track day is Mar 4 or 5, if the car isn't ready I plan on going and watching the 100 lap mini bike Enduro. , I may let a friend race mine, I gotta work on Monday! ImageImageImage

I'm waiting for the Go Pro in-car video of at least one complete lap. 8)

Fire extinguisher in place.

Lower bash bar to protect the core support. 1.5" tube welded to the frame. It sits about 3" in front and 1.25" lower than the actual core support.

Rear bumper cover trimmed a bit and the actual metal bumper removed.

Seats, mounts, harness bar and 5 pt harnesses installed.

Really long day at work, my ass is tired!ImageImageImageImageImage

A few pics from earlier this month, headed back to the track on Sunday. Definitely not the fastest but loads of fun for sure.

I'm planning on having some in car video if the mount holds up to my bad driving!ImageImageImage

So you have brake cooling ducts where the left headlight was removed?

The inlet for the stock air box is behind the headlight. I opened the hole as much as possible on the cars nose piece with my Makita die grinder. The nose piece is some sort of plastic like FRP or something similar. Headlight goes back in afterwards.

Ah. So.

I'm going to presume then that these photos were from an event where you were after more horsepower than usual, thus leaving out the headlight for more airflow.... 8)

You might want to consider some wire screen over that opening, but probably not needed if the headlight is going back in.
