The POS is a goer once more..... But....
Hey guys.... The challenges have all be met, the fuel pressure is under control, the timing with the megajolt/EDIS is working nicely and car is making power and good economy once more..... But.....
I now have the small problem of fuel pooling in the turbo and leaking out after the engine is shut down... From memory (or lack of it!) I don't recall ever having this issue before...
For those that don't know my car....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-58dK5FQLY
I have noticed some turbo set-ups have the compressor side of the turbo scroll facing the other way.... Is the pooling problem the reason?.... So fuel can drain out of the turbine housing on shut down?

Fuel should not leak from the compressor, you have a bad seal if so...

The comp side of the (GT2560) turbo hasn't got a seal in it.... The inner and out comp housing parts are simply clamped together with a metal contact area.... When I got the turbo from a ricer mate, I did notice a slight smear of blue silicone on the mating surfaces.... Maybe even on a Skyline (where this turbo came from), these surfaces weep fuel after shut down?

Similar.... Cleaner.... Less vacuum hoses, different 'T' manifold, different manifold boots, very different fuel system (4th version!), more stuff going on under the car, larger/taller rear tyres, tacho, boost and O2 gauges....
Still not got registration permits for the mods....
Faster!!!!
But still no quarter mile times...
Now it all seems ok, it's time to hit the track.... Two weeks from now I'll have the time to give it a shot.

My old turbo leaked, made a mess, and it pissed me off! Current one has an o-ring on the compressor housing....no leaky!

Now there's an idea.... Your running an 'older' T series turbo correct?.... I wonder if the GT series housings can be modded or if there already is a replacement housing with this built in...Hotrodvw wrote:My old turbo leaked, made a mess, and it pissed me off! Doh!.... I am a pillock.... I just re-read this post.... Idiot.... No fuel before the turbo on a Skyline!!!.... What am I thinking?.... Maybe it was an air issue?Humpty wrote:The comp side of the (GT2560) turbo hasn't got a seal in it.... The inner and out comp housing parts are simply clamped together with a metal contact area.... Got the beast going again on Wednesday.... Organised a permit to drive and all... After a few minor issues with jetting, the car settled down nicely.... Man its nice to have some power under the pedal....
All seemed nice while cruising, giving it a little poke every now and then, but then the trouble started.... Give it large and the engine would go crazy lean, then slow to a stop and stall.... Can't figure it out.... I'm getting a nice even 2psi at idle (at the carb via a by-pass Malpassi) and around 5psi at the Holley reg.... After trying all sorts of pressure reg set-ups I'm at my wits end.... I'm about to start on my 6th version of a fuel system.... I've gone from a conventional 'dead-head' holley set-up to the current by-pass (fuel return), dual reg deal.... Still can't get it right.... So I pulled the whole system from the car and bench tested it.... I think my Holley pump is buggered... Its supposed to be a 'Blue' but I can't get more that 6psi out it.... It's supposed to be good for 14psi.... Gonna tear it down today and see if I can figure whats up...
What are you draw-through dudes doing for a fuel system.... Part numbers, brand names, pipe and hose sizes if you got'em!

Well, I can tell you what I am using, but we all know it hasn't really been thru the paces yet. Pump shouldn't matter if its in proper working order. The key is referencing the regulator. I'm using a 1/4"hose off of my manifold for boost pressure. That hose goes up to the to cap of my regulator, to push down on the top if the diaphragm to increase pressure. As boost rises, so does the pressure. Go back in my build thread and see how I did mine. Also, make sure you can fill the bowls, speaking of the fuel line size. Mine's 3/8" (#6).

I wish I could help more with your problems. Maybe the injection should go on the POS instead

Re: The POS is a goer once more..... But....
Been doing the numbers.... This freaking stinky carb shite has swollowed a heap of coin.... And now it seems more needs to be spent on fuel pumps to make it work.... Seems the Holley Blue's are not really up to the task and don't last very long.... This one I have has lasted only about a week of actual road use... Feel like I'm chasing my tail....
So the other option is EFI.... I have most of the stuff here to make it happen.... Not the gear I bought off you Mario, but another lot of MS stuff I bought for the Bug ages ago....
All I need is some efi end castings, injectors and fuel rails to make it happen.... The 3/8" fuel lines that are in the car will work perfectly. I have a 044 pump, the filters I have are fine for the job, the tank is already to go... Only needs to make an intake manifold for the Ford Falcon TB....
Am I mad or is this the best possible course of action?

What are you waiting for!? If you have almost everything to make the swap, then it might be time to do it! Although it is summer down there, so now might not be the most fun time to do it. But if you have to keep buying $100 pumps, why not spend the couple hundred more for the remaining FI stuff. Once tuned it'll run great all of the time! AND get good gas mileage compared to what it gets now(most likely). I have a set of turbo friendly injectors that I'd let go of for a good deal. PM if you consider going this route, and are interested.Humpty wrote:Been doing the numbers.... This freaking stinky carb shite has swollowed a heap of coin....
