Maybe you slipped a tooth on the throw out arm?

Maybe. Didn't look weird though. And doesn't explain the shake. But I have it all apart now. Oil is draining and it can drop. 15 more minutes and I will be able to see what's up inside there.

This was a surprise though. Trans oil according to the smell.

Replace the seal.....with the disc grenaded it was out of balance so that input shaft was probably wobbling from the centrifugal forces. It probably took the seal out.
Put some grease on your input shaft.....you might want to look at the bearing inside the gland nut.
I'm wondering why the disc let go.

I'm not sure why it let go. Maybe too much power?!!
Thanks Clone I will take a look at that stuff. There was no oil on the pressure plate or the disk so your probably right. It must have just happened . I probably only drove it 1-1.5 miles after it happened.

Re: 1600 turbo build thread
It's funny there is a California engine/trans builder here in town at our local VW place. I called because he brought some engines and trans to sell and is doing some engine repair /building while he's here. He told me all the California turbo guys want a trans with a 4.86 R&P with the SB 3.78 first and stock gears for the rest. I told him he was nuts. That's lower geared than my stock 65' swing which only goes like 6mph in first. Said he never heard of guys using taller gears to load the turbo. Good bye sir!

Does your pressure plate have a hot spot? Maybe that one side was always rubbing leading to the failure?
Also what disk is/was that?
Lastly I wouldn’t go with that transmission!

I will take a closer look at it tomorrow. Didn't notice anything obvious. But I was at work from 6am to damn near 9pm. I was ready to get out of there. 95 some degrees today too. It is a Daikin disk.
