2276 always wanted to go turbo..
Clearly HP is an addiction. The more I have the more I want.
I have a 2276 currently 9.5:1 but would lower a touch with :
tims stage 2 heads (regular cb duals) and port matched manifolds
Dellorto 45s
Web 86b on a ep12 blank so I could use cb lifters, currently using 1.4 rockers
Shuffle pinned empi aluminum case (checked out good)
Forged pistons, 4340 I beam rods and 4340 crank
Cb crankfire kit is about to be ordered
Currently a 3 rib trans but am gonna order a 6 rib
Questions I have is will the regular cb duals control the valves with some boost and if not does anything need to be machined to accept vw650s? I wouldn’t add much (I hope). It’s in a Baja so I could easily at a intercooler. Hmm thought I would have more questions but I guess that’s it. I know it’s not ideal. I figure if lower CR a touch and add just a bit of boost I would still have some good throttle response, a good deck height for quench and the power when I want it.
Was looking at the turbos off a ford 2.3l mustang.
Motor has already been built and has maybe 4K miles on it. Was just wondering... I know the cam isn’t ideal.
I can do weld (I’m a structural welder that dabbles in pipe).

9.5-1 on E85 and low boost should be fine.
I would do the 650 springs. I have them on my 500whp 2165cc.

No e85 here. Currently I can run 87 on the super hot days (92 deg is the recent record). I can get 90 octane. Iirc I’m at a .040” deck with a 9.6:1 cr. Figured I can shim it .020 and still have some quench and do a little grindin on the heads to unshroud the valves a bit to lower CR a bit more.
Just learning right now. I’ve read the turbo book from cb a few times.

Oh yeah. Is there any machine work involved with swapping from the duals I have to vw650s?
I’ll likely leave the motor as is. Just wanted to get some feedback. I have a Chevy that has a ton of power, just would be more fun in the bug.

As far as I know, the 650s have same dimentions.
If 90 octane is the highest you have, you need lower CR.
Are you going with a air to air og water to air intercooler?

I would look for a water methanol injection kit to keep temps down and prevent detonation. That with an Intercooler should keep temps low. I have a pretty large one on mine.
As for springs duals will work for now, if you feel like your getting valve float that’s a pretty easy swap with the engine in. There are guys running everything from stock springs to w650 and all seem to work if your not spinning 10000rpm.
What are your boost goals?

I wouldn't boost that even if I did have e85.

Re: 2276 always wanted to go turbo..
I was thinking of putting a tank in for air to water intercooler.
Got some thinking to do. The wise thing would be to finish off the interior, it needs a lot of work on the inside. Then consider a turbo.
Motor is pretty fun as is...
Thanks for the replies.

With that much compression it would be too risky (for me). Obviously spent some good money on it, it would be a shame to Jack it up.

Re: 2276 always wanted to go turbo..
9.5.1 is a bit high for a proper amount of PSI. over say 1 bar, you might only want to use low boost pressure now BUT I'll guarantee you will want to increase it, all turbo tuners do. The temptation is too great.
Lower that static while its still out of the car. Shim it under the barrels or thicker copper head rings.
My motor was when I 1st built it had a high static , it would ping at 7psi with a low total timing figure.
I had to take motor out and re set the static comp. Wasted a summer doing that what with work/life getting in the way.
Even now its the water injection kit that's stopping the ping. No e85 over here. only reasonably priced 97 ron

P.s. there is tuners on here with huge deck heights who have no tuning issues, I read somewhere that the red baron was using a 4mm deck

Yea, don't be afraid to run huge deck , my build was n/a at first and had to drop it ,heck I think it at .120

Yeah if you could shim it to .090 or so that should get you safeish around 8.5:1 compression.
