Can these lifter bores be saved?

Post by THX1138 »

As the title suggests... The one pictured is the worst of them. My ID mic is too big and I don't have snap gauges, so roughly measured with calipers it's about 20.7mm. Since most of the wear is on the bottom of the bore I'm not sure a 21mm sleeve would be enough to clean it up. But would a 22mm sleeve require removing too much meat from the case?

Brothers has sleeved the lifter bores on a few cases for me, I didn't measure them but the lifters had noticable slop in the bore. Might want to give them a call, unless you have a good VW machine shop within driving distance.
Good Luck

That wear is nothing. Send it to Brother's, they'll do it right.
