Kafer_Mike - those sweat unions look much beefier than the Home Depot versions I used previously. Probably made much better too!
Just finished up another hardware order for the NPT unions above, plus some Milton V's in 3/8" NPT. After getting the filter/desiccator combo in I realized it's a bit too "massive" to hang on the lightweight trombone tubing structure. Now leaning towards hard-mounting the filters & regulator inside the shed, with 1/2" rubber air line running outside to the copper cooling system. I'm also going to punt using the Motorguard filter, no good way to mount it plus it only has 1/4 NPT fittings. I'm just going to let the 2-stage filter/desiccator and a bulb filter at the gun do all my filtering.

Probably a good move losing the Motorguard piece, They're known to contaminate some coatings if used in last step filtration. It's mostly designed for use with medium duty Air tools to keep moisture down in my estimation. I like them Ok, but the problems lie in the construction and coatings of the housing. They will often corrode internally where you won't see it unless you change the filters out constantly... I've seen several with catastrophic failure for the corrosion as well.

I got that Motorguard over 20 years ago - hard to believe any product stays on the market for that long! I too learned the lesson of using and forgetting it, and the associated internal moisture corrosion when I finally opened it up. Not bad enough to pitch, but made me aware it needed to be opened and dried out after every use! It'll stay on the shelf for now.
Built up the "trombonie" air cooler stand today, should work as intended.
The hose on the left side is the inlet - it'll connect up to the air compressor via the union at the end of the hose. The right side will feed the 2-stage filter with another length of 1/2" hose - via the union mounted on the air cooler outlet. That hose will stay attached to the filters (rolled up when not in use). Pouring rain today so couldn't mount the filters in the shed, but I'll snap a pic of that when it's done. I need to figure out what length of hose I need between air cooler and filter so need to get the filters mounted first and see what I'm working with. Not ordering that until I know for sure!

Minor update. I fabricated and installed a 2x6 backing board in the shed for solid mounting the filter assembly. Determined I needed a 10ft length of hose to join it to the trombonie outside the roll-up door. Went to order the hose only to find out they only make the 1/2" hose in 3', 6', 25' (and longer) lengths. I misread the web page thinking they have a 10' length in 1/2". They do offer this length in 3/8", but I'm trying to keep everything 1/2" NPT (and hose size) up to the filter/regulator to minimize flow restrictions. Once again back to the drawing board and decided to fab another 4ft. connector section of 3/4" copper pipe from near the door opening up to the filters, then I can use the available 6ft hose length. Keep in mind this is all a somewhat temporary set up, specifically for painting my chassis (and maybe some bodywork primer). Likely for it to all be moth-balled after that, until needed again?
Time for another trip to the hardware store!

Finally, this stage is Done! Had to make a couple in-progress updates to the piping plan, happy with the turnout. This "rounding the corner" layout gives me plenty of hose to extend outside and easily reach the trombonie.
Slight down-hill grade on the copper although the shed grade makes it look "extra sloped". That's a Milton V QD coming off the regulator, have a black cap covering the opening to keep the bugs at bay - they'll be coming out soon!
I'll eventually have to pressure test the system, I didn't want to install multiple temporary fittings to test individual parts though I think I'll install one in the air hose feeding the trombonie and connect the whole system together for a quick check. Otherwise, I won't be using it until I'm ready to paint - much to do on the chassis before then. At least this stage is completed and ready to rock!
