Jack Stands On Wheels

Post by david58 »

I was just watching Power Block and they showed how to make your jack stands mobile so you could move your project around while on jack stands. I searched their site to see if they had a video or a How To but didn't find one. At first I thought this is B/S but after watching them build them I think that they are safe. They used 2 pieces of angle iron and 2 pieces of tubing to make the base for the jack stand to sit in and 4 castors off of a shopping cart. They said in the show not to go out and steal some shopping carts. :D And said you could buy the same castors for 10 bucks a piece. 4 of the castors will support 1400 LBS. So this got me to thinking if you made each side separately left and right then you would have 8 castors instead of 16. The jack stands also could be relocated in the track if it was in your way.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

Isn't there things Harbor Freight sells for moving cars around....

Actually jack stand on wheels sounds a bit scary to me..... If I have a car UP, I don't what anything that can tip or collapse or move holding it up..... I'll pass thank you....

That reminds me is Power Block still on SPIKE... Never have found it since I moved and went on satellite.....

HF (and others) does sell a pair of wheeled stands for something like $50 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=32052 and a four piece dolly set for $130, http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=38959 They also have a higher end unit that sells for $100 per corner but it is a hydraulic unit. The Spike TV show thought that you could build a unit for about %50 per corner but it did not have a brake on it. That would not be that much of a problem though as they are available with a brake also in both three inch and four inch diameter wheels (needed to get over cracks in the floor or driveway.. http://search.harborfreight.com/cpisear ... ter+wheels

The big draw back to this is that you need to have wheels on your toy, hence, the unit that works with both tires and jack stands. The jack stand should be pretty safe and it you are concerned you could add straps to clamp things down a bit.

I been planning on making some since the first time I saw the program. I am not far from taking my buggy pan off the rotisserie and starting to install the suspension and body. It would be nice to move things around when I need to make room in my garage to do other things or just spin the pan around to work on the other side of the car. Like anything else you have to be careful and think about what you are doing.

You want to be very careful on where you support buggy on any stands whether roller or not, the balance point is about 6 inches forward of rear torsion bar tube when body and motor are in place...

I had some extra 1 1/2" angle iron, so I cut and welded it into four square boxes that my wheels would sit in and added wheels to each. Now I can set the bug on them and push it all around the garage. The wheels are the kind with brakes.
