retrofitting fuel filler door to fiberglass??

Hi guys-

I am building a '71 baja bug. I am curious if anyone has tried to keep the factory door/ filler mechanism and retrofitted the whole assembly to a one piece fiberglass front end. My cell is going up front, and I thought it would be a really clean/ stealthy look. Thanks for any ideas/ info!
