Jake has plates and is NH legal. His parents would be so proud:)

Despite it being ohmygodIcan'tfeelmytoesisitwinteralready cold, I got a huge chunk of my list done today. Tomorrow I mount the bumpers and little bits that still need to be put on. I'm going to go over the motor again and make sure it is all set.

Harbor Freight tire mounter works like a charm.

IT LOOKS SO GOOD!! Definitely white works better on the wheels, I love the tiny touch of green. Wow, door panels and everything.

Forgot to ask -- does the horn work?

I'm kind of amazed at how fast you work!

Well, today the journey ended for Jake with us...and started with Lexi. I'll pass the reigns over to her and let her continue the story. But, before i forget, fuser, we need to find a set of dual carbs for her, the progressive ran nice when the weather is dry and warm but cool and damp is anothr story. She did take him around the block a few times with me and I can tell he's in good hands. Also, I forgot something else. When she was driving it, it seemed like it wasn't getting all it could but I thought was just cuz i was in the passenger seat, but thinking about it I put in a rubber mat for her in the front area and I think the throttle cable might need some adjusting so she can get more revs out of it. Otherwise, she seems like she is happy.

The last shots of Jake before he went on the trailer:

I know her dad took some pics so I'll let her post those. How awesome is Lexi? Look what she made us, matching VW Bus cakes! Mmmm, kitkat bumpers, Peppermint Patty wheels, graham cracker windows and Reese Pieces lights.

:D Can't believe he's really sitting in front of my house... thanks for all the work you put in, you guys are amazing. I'm glad you liked the cakes!
My dad took pictures with his cell and hasn't uploaded them yet, we'll see how they come out.
Checking on the battery this morning, I'm hoping it's all good and charged today, and that I just don't know how to deal with batteries or starting up VW engines yet.
He's so PURPLE!

Carbureted systems are a little different than fuel injection but you seemed like you were getting along pretty well by the time I left. Do not hesitate to let me know if you continue to have issues with that battery (or anything else for that matter). I've got my eyes on a few replacements for that centermount carb, I'd like to get something for you in place before the next couple of weeks are over. I sent fuser a message and asked him to let me know if there is anything he thinks I should take care of for you that I might have missed. Between the two of is, we have you covered.

He sure does look good in front of your house:)

you can check if your battery is charged by measuring the voltage across it after it has been sitting for a while. meaning after stopping charging it, wait at LEAST 4 hours and measure the voltage. 12.6-12.8 volts is a fully charged battery, 12.10 is like 50% which is pretty low.
with the car running the voltage on the battery should be 13.75-14v, rev the throttle a tiny bit and the voltage should climb to 14 or stay where it is. If not you have a charging issue.

also you can drive to autozone and they will test all taht for free.

Everything is there, just needs to be connected. I did test the power leads to the blower and they have juice. Also, I did connect up the vacuum booster and you are right, it does make a HUGE difference in effort. Pedal is still nice and firm but not ohmygodcharleyhorsetime hard.

I left him to charge overnight, and he started right up this morning! Quick and easy. Then, of course, I didn't give him enough gas and stalled him out again and couldn't start him a second time. But the noise wasn't that of a dead battery, it sounded like it did when you had to fiddle with the choke. No one else was awake at that hour, so I'll have to try that later. Goal for today: get him into the driveway.

Thank you for the car support! It is very comforting to know that now that I own him, I am not stuck alone with no idea what to do.

Still having trouble with the passenger's side door and the sliding door locks. My unfortunate new method of closing the sliding door arose this morning in desperation, when I eventually managed to shut it most of the way and then threw myself against it, whereby it popped into place. I'll have to find another way to do that.

Also started thinking about curtain colors :D

if you slam the door shut and it closes most of the way, turn the handle the opposite direction of opening, and it should click it all the way closed.

if you stall it out and it won't restart, quickly floor the pedal 2 or 3 times, then letgo of the gas pedal and try cranking again. also turn the key off right away whenever it stalls out, this will make it easier to restart. I'll explain why next time i see you.

when you say the seceond time it sounded like it did when sneaks had to fiddle with it, you mean it was jsut spinning and spinning and nothing happening, or was it spinning really slow?
