clanging in alt./ fan area

Post by veedoubleyou »

i believe the clanging is coming from either my alt. or from my fanshroud. these things were doing it on another motor and i thought it was the other motor. would the pullies make this sound. it actually sounds like the fan is beating the poop out of something but i can turn it by hand and it spins freely. has anyone ever heard of an alt. making that sound? thanks everyone for your help

Grab on to the pulley and see if you can move it at all (other than have it spin around like it should). Also see if the fan wiggles around. If either one is loose, their spinning will accentuate the wobbling a might be causing it to hit something. Think of an unbalanced washing machine when it's going. Good luck.

Steve</B><HR></BLOCKQUOTE>im going to check all of that, but i think its actually my bent crank pulley hitting the sheet metal. i hit the crank where its bent with a hammer and the clank got worse. it looks like the sheet metal is vibrating. anyway i have a new pulley in the mail now.
