Bunch of questions (Long)

Post by Duc »

Well after finally graduating and hopefully soon getting another car to drive daily i will be able to get my '69 Ghia done the way I want it. For those who don't rmemember I finish building my 2.3l 71mm X 103mm about 1.5yrs back. She has be running fine and has just rolled 8k with no major problems.

I have been out of the loop for so long I don't know all the new gadgets available for T4. Whatever happened to the T4 aftermarket heads?

Glad to see both Joe's are still at it, and yes Joe (of the West) I am still using your shroud and love it. Alright now for the nitty gritty.

Goals:

Refresh my 2.3l and maybe up the anty to ??
New heads (though mine do have 48mm in and 38mm out I would rather redo a better set than those)
EFI (just got finished reading through Sharkies stuff, wish I had done what he did years ago when I found a bunch of those companies on my own)
Better brakes: I know what is available I am just curious as to what peoples opinions are on the choices for front DISC (Porsche 944T vs ?, ABT vs modified stock) rears are not the issue as that will be handled via 944 trailing arms.
Trannie (don't know how many times I have tried to shift into 5th) who has done the mod and how much hacking is done.

Now the questions I also am looking for some ansers too:

Who is Power Tuning Parts? and what is the deal with the 6-stud setup that was in a different topic.

Who sells decently priced Porsche parts for brake mods/wheels?

And finally who does good head work?

BTW Thanks for all the help on the first go of building. I will be scanning in my pics of my bedroom engine build soon.

Hi Duc,
I hope the T-4 Ghia project did'nt effect
your GPA adversely. Congrats on your graduation.
The six stud head is resting (as best I
know)as Mark Stephens High Performance is
again out of business. I have not heard any
reports on how good the six stud system is
working. For those not in on this, its a
modification that has two additional 1/4
inch bolts going through the head and being
attached to a boss at the bottom of the
cylinder (not the case)thus spreading the
contact more evenly on the cylinder to head
surfaces. (the result is six studs per head)
This fix is intended to overcome the problem
of head leaks when using large bore cylinders. I'd like to hear more about this
from current users both street and off road.
Anyway, welcome back, Duc.

Power Tuning Parts has a CNC billet plate system which slips under the cylinders then the 6 studs (2 extra for each cylinder) bolt into this plate. I have pictures, mail me and I'll FW. I'm buying this setup with big welded heads, their 911 cooling system and their trick 39 gram lifters.

I'm also going to run early 944 rear brakes upgraded with early 944 turbo calipers.

My friend Derrick Neal is designing a bracket to adapt 996 brakes to the beetle similar to what MBT sells.

I'm also installing a 5 speed trans into my pan, a 901.
