What flywheel bolts for high HP engine and extra dowells?

Post by -Alex77- »

What flywheel bolts for high HP engine and are extra dowells needed? HP about 240-250hp from 2600cc plus N/A engine.

I was thinking BAS 12.9 bolts, but i heard that they were unreliable(?).

Another choice is Jake's Super HD Flywheel bolt set.

Should i add five 8mm diameter dowells to the crank?

Alex, there are people running big numbers with no special bolts or dowels with no problems,
its not the end of the world if they shear clean, which i have had happen in rallycross, it does no damage if the flywheel stays on the crank, the clutch keeps it in position, just new bolts and away you go, but if they just come loose and rattle the flywheel, it can kill the crank. so it wont hurt to use good bolts in reamed flywheel holes, torqued to 90 ft/lb, i do use dowels, i do them 4 x 3/4" length x 8mm, and one x 3/4" length x 11/16" to register the flywheel.
