I like it too: just bought two of that vanagon rubber suckers in the bay

I welded on some 2" angle steel "wings" to the factory Bus steel block side mount bits, using the factory rubber mounts as a positioning device. They are close enough to "right" on the bar side for s simple hole, although IIRC I welded in some 1/2" tubing for the bolt holes.

The Vanagon mounts directed me where to cut and weld/angles etc.

I'm using a Golf/Rabbit oil filter as I was concerned about the slightly reduced clearance, but it actually has about the same as factory with the stock filter, so I may eventually switch back.

It seems to work great other than the factory trans nosecone mount, it seems to be allowing significant up/down movement.
A "new" nosecone mount may happen this week, made from a SBC engine mount. (TBD)

If I had to do it again, I'd probably weld in some CrMo tubing for faux frame horns and a kafer style brace tying everything to the rear suspension, and go with a mid mount, skipping the rear bar entirely. (sort of make a rear subframe all attached to the T3 torsion)
It may happen yet...

Ninja--- That's probably the best plan for you when you add the Bus trans.
You may want to go with the Berg nosecone and T1 shift forks etc. (Tom Notch's setup)

I'm still keeping my eyes peeled for a 411 automatic. (IIRC higher gearing and IMHO stronger than an 091)

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Here you go pile, I have been entertaining welding this to a IRS subframe (which I may be finally getting next weekend) http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... ?id=892969

Oh hell yes... My only concern going that route is the turbo header I have planned, based on a QSC Kerry Hunter knockoff.
It will clear the std late setup, but the frame horns may cause issues.

Hmm... Might be able to use that 944 torsion after all.

Thanks. Would have been my next question :)

Want to see pics
Want to stay with stock for the moment. Dreaming of UN1-box. But have to make shure not to lose my historical registration. Loosing it would lead to painfull taxes for the T3. Maybe the 914-box is the only historical correct conversion.
Whats new in mind is a sportomatic from early 911. But seems to be the most expensive way. Boxes are cheap, spareparts are unaffordable.

My idea with that is the porsche style:
getriebe911.jpg
Then the nosecone can proper handle motor rock/torquing the first time
IMHO the rear bar is a perfect place for mounting the haevy T4 engine. Woudnt skip it.

Hmmm.. That Porsche 911 front mount gives me some Bad Ideas.
I have a spare set of 914 trans mounts that are almost identical to those...
2" angle steel/square stock +1/4" plate... and a welder...

We'll see if I can get to it, feels like a ^$#&&*^ cold coming on, the weather supposed to be great.

If you are interested in that pictures mount, let me know. I have one sitting out in my parts bin that came with my notchback buy. I actually added it to the metal scrap bin cause I had no idea what it was until now. It must have came off of the 901 that was included.

And of nowhere....BOOM! Some manifolds for my gixxer throttle bodies :)

tomorrow I'm ordering some K&N filters and 1.75" couplers/clamps. All I need now is some slowtwitch cable linkage, does anybody know how to get ahold of him?

PM him, he's probably busy

Uni makes some nice filters in that size range---Aircooled.net sells them, much better filter than a K&N. Cheaper too.
John has xtra-shorties as well.

I have PMed him twice about it already, I'll probably whip up my own cable linkage. I'll peep those Uni filters out Pile.

He has some REALLY short ones that aren't listed, or maybe they are "for" the solex carbs...

Regardless, Uni makes really short filters that will fit and won't sand your motor like K&Ns will.

I'd look into some 2" elbows for a little runner length... Too short kills tq and you should have room.
Put the filters in an airbox in the center with a large cold air feed, then size really won't matter
(That's what I'm planning, anyway)
