ot: stalling fuel injected vehicle help
i know, it is not a vw but it is what i use to tow my vw! my 1991 4.0 jeep is stalling at idle and occassionally loses power during cruise speed. no codes in memory and i have replaced the crank position sensor , speed sensor (had code before) and has a new pump. what controls pump speed? throttle position sensor or the speed sensor or what? i heard that pump dying out at idle and gave it gas and pump speed (by sound) came back up as did idle speed. help please!

in not sure if this will help . i had a bretta kick my butt once . i replaced the throttle postion sensorand the idle control valve both of wich were rather expensive .the eventual problem turned out to be the vacume hose that went to the M.A.P sensor . it had goten soft and when it was at idle it would suck it closed and kill the car . it took me two days and alot of foul words to figgure it out .
you can check the throttle position sensor with a ohm meter . disconect the plug hook the meter to the T.B.S . watch and see if it vary restance smoothly . if it stops and jumps in restance its bad .

wow.. same problem with my '93 escort. I had codes in memory, they just didn't tell me anything important..
me: "181.. Ok, lets check the book. hmm.. Oh there it is.. '181: Car running like crap, you'll never fix this problem!!! HAHA'!! Damn code charts.."
took me a long time to get that problem fixed. though it was a combination of several problems vacuum lines can collapse like that. Good luck!

Have you considered converting to carburation? Can you do that where you live? (There's my prejudice - my feeble mind can't cope with all the electronic stuff. If it can't be fixed on the road with hard tools, I don't want it.)

when was the last time the fuel filter was replaced, had a blazer once that wouldnt go over 30 no matter what, no codes either,
I would look at the vac hoses too, I also do the poor mans touching of the spark plug wires and ground and see if the silicon jackets have worn out of the wires.

thank you for the replies! it is nice have second opinions when it comes to troubleshooting fuel injection. it looks like the o2 sensor ( 10k shy of the scheduled mark of 80k) was the culprit. no codes just the symptoms of a sporadic lean mixture. it is a fine line between throwing parts at a promblem and doing what you think is logical promblem solving... i think the multimeter and a wiring diagram are the separating factors. what a pain in the ass...
