70 Baja Bug Build

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

70 Baja Bug Build

Post by BajaBug222 »

Howdy,
I'm Located in Sahuarita, Az. I'm new to the go fast in the desert scene. I have been into the go slow and crawl over big rocks since I have been driving. I have always wanted to build a Baja since before I even had my first car and have never actually owned one till now. The wife was not for the idea. So needless to say I woke up early one saturday morning and drove to Wilcox and picked up my first Baja and towed it home. Wife finally got over it I was just told I couldn't modify it. Ha Ha ya right nothing that I own ever stays stock so of coarse ya sure honey. So I did some basic tune up stuff got it road worthy. Drove it for a couple weeks cracked the frame horns in a couple places got that fixed. then the wife tells me I need to pull a roll cage in it. So in my mind that means game on build time. In a round about way I was given an ok. So It begins

Welcome to STF, you might want to visit the Off-road forum, aka the dirt pile, and see what is going on there. What do you plan on ending up with as there are a lot of different ways to go. Remember, if there aren't any pictures (posted) then it didn't happen; also, we are pretty good at spending other people's money. :D

Thanks, That's all I have been doing is going from post to post looking at everyones builds. Lots of very good ideas and very nice bajas. Once I get to a computer that I can upload pictures from I will start posting them. I agree if there aren't any pictures it didn't happen.
I'm Starting with a 1970 Baja Bug 1600DP. Ball joint front end and IRS rear. currently working on a full cage tying the beam to the torsion housing. Converting to link front 6in wider. 3x3 rears with disc brakes. 4x1 front with tweed combo spindles will be ordering tatum front brake soon. 5 rib bus trans, ADS bypass shocks all around.

Hopefully once I get home tonight I can do the same. Haven't done much on the bug in the last two weeks.

I think there are some builds now that should be in the build list. Ask and the mods will answer.
