Now the UK weather has turned cold and there has been plenty of salt spread over our roads, I thought it would be a good opportunity to take the bug off the road and fit the TD04L turbo I purchased earlier this year.
To make it fit the CB header I will need to get a new flange welded on but before I did that I thought I would rotate the turbo housings to make the orientation correct for my setup.
It took a lot of spray lubricant, a little heat and a hammer to drive off the turbine housing but I got there eventually.
Unfortunately, this is what I found :( :

I was surprised to see this as play in the shaft seemed minimal but I think it's obvious to see that the turbine has been making some contact with the housing.
I have contacted the company I bought this from and I'm awaiting their reply.
If they want to offer me a replacement then I'll give that a go but otherwise I'm back to square 1........ Turbo selection.

I would say a 'foreign object' has entered this turbine section, probably something exhaust valve related...
Good thing you looked first!

Not sure though what this faulty turbo would change with regard to 'turbo selection'. Has your engine spec changed maybe?

No, sorry Wally. It was a play on words meaning that I will have to source another TD04l before I can take things any further.
Unless the eBay trader I bought it from won't want it back so I can use this turbo for mocking up purposes. :)

Ah! sometimes you can just tell english is not my native language...oeps ;-)

Hope you get your money back. I am still fighting a certain Darren from JDmotorsport.com (UK) for not reimbursing me because he did not even sending a suby turbo in the first place after I paid him...

No worries Wally. TBH I didn't really use the word "selection" in the right context so more my "bad" than your English letting you down.

I hope I get my money back or an exchange turbo too as I bought it back in August and have only just taken the turbine housing off today. :(

Perhaps you should contact trading standards about JDmotorsport as there are rules and regulations in the UK to protect people from rogue tradesmen: http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/
