COP ING-FD Coil

Post by Redline Weber »

We have raised the output of the Ford 4.6/5.4 two valve coil (IGN-FD) by 33%.
The newer Ford Coyote uses a pencil coil with ignitor, not released.
Thus, this coil (IGN-FD) is NOT "flagship" anymore, of a lower concern to them.

No testing "back-to-back" has been done as of yet between the IGN-4 (four post) AND the "new" IGN-FD version.

My method will be to test both coils on my CO-2 pressure chamber, same wires, similar plugs, at the same time, same dwell, same RPM.

The ING-FD coil can be fed 9.6 AMPS.
I expect to see 65+mJ of energy when the OEM test criteria is [email protected] dwell MAX.

My guess is that the waste spark IGN-4 AND COP IGN-FD will have the same ability to fire in the CO-2 chamber.

Did you have a chance to run the coil test?

Check it out, a picture of you!

Nobody has talked about the LS2 - Yukon coil? Wahhhht?? Its the best!

Watch this video all the way through, its why I bought and used LS2 Yukon coils.

I'm running 5ms of dwell and if I remember correct a .45 gap or something like that

Have you tested the IGN-1a coils? Wonder how they compare to the Yukon coils.

Gen-IV : Coils coils coils

Post by Redline Weber »

We now manufacture a LS-Gen-IV coil.
This is not the "580" or "585" though all test about the same in the CO-2 tester.

Our LS coil will charge faster (1 ms) with 10% more output with the same footprint.
The internal IGBT has twice the current rating of the GM sold Gen-IV coil.
Current draw is about nine Amps to produce 85 mJ energy.

Your question is answered by output voltage (450+ psi of CO-2) and energy (280 mJ ) reports with IGN-1A testing

Our LS-Gen-IV test procedure of 9000 RPM, 5 ms dwell, 225 psi for 15 minutes does allow for a though "wear-in" period
test on ALL of this new product production at this time.

The real world, LS coils will work well up to 1 Bar boost whereas the IGN-1A will work well at 3 Bar boost.

Lance, BTW we sell CO-2 chambers.

Good as I will see 35+ psi on this build.
