New to both here AND VWs!

Post by sgainbrachta »

Hi all!

My name is Robert, and I decided to finally make a tube chassis buggy. As a kid I got to drive one a TON, and it is how I actually learned to drive, for the most part. That said- it's been about 30 or so years since I drove one, and when I did- all the damage was done!

My intent is to build a light off-road, street-legal version of the 1980's era Desert Patrol Vehicle, with some modifications. I have a 1660 engine with dual Weber 134s on it, a IRS rear and a couple different front ends that I'm trading ammo for, as well as a ton of other parts.

I saw the thread for the fella who made on here already from a basic sand rail- and his info was a godsend! << http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic ... 8&t=132705 >> Anyhow, still reading and planning and plotting. Hope to get the frame done this winter at a maker's space here in sunny Reno, NV- and while I'm doing that, I'll work on the front beam, engine and transmission.

The hope is to have the vehicle ready to drive to and wander about at Wasteland Weekend (http://www.wastelandweekend.com), as well as for the trails in my area for some fun geocaching and also as transport for some of the areas out here for hunting.

Bestens!
