WBX 1.9 1.25:1 rockers

Post by bratjie »

Hi Guy's, just want to get some info from the oke's that now's
I have a set 1.25:1 rockers lying around, I dont really want to open the engine up now so,
Can I fit the Empi Rockers and leave the factory double valve springs in?
Now boosting 1.5 bar after I fixed a faulty BOV and not revving past 6000rpm,

Or should I wait for a teardown and then install single racing springs?

After looking at Tencents cam measurements it looks safe. The 1.9s camshaft is very mild. After switching rockers you will end up close to the stock MV code 2.1 liter camshaft lift.
That said, boosting a used engine is risky, you should have good seating valves and more spring pressure for extended rpm from the turbo.
You never told us what you found when you pulled the heads. :?:

Hi Joe, I never got to pulling the heads, when I bought the motor it was originally built as a Turbo lump with mainly stock internals in a Ghia, the guy then had a front end smash so I took over the motor, it was basically just run in when I got it.
He mentioned a cr of 7.3:1 which made me wonder if it wasnt too low, however after fixing the stuck BOV we were able to achieve 1.5 bar boost, of course I would like to lower boost back to about 1 bar hence the question of the ratio rockers that would enhance flow. I was just not sure if it could be done safely keeping coil bind and valve float in mind with the stock springs.
So far the motor has only done maybe about a 1000 km's, which included 2 oil and filter changes just to be safe and to check for any abnormalities in the oil, I found no impurities in both oil changes.
Also I have an external oil cooler and running a charge cooler to keep the temperatures within spec. Never revving beyond 6000rpm either, no hard launches and granny shifting all the time.

Anybody else that can confirm/recommend a straight 1.25:1 bolt on?

So, the other evening I decided to be a very naughty boy against my better judgement and advise from dear friends,l enterd a private race on a an oval track and was very surprised! :D , needless to say I cooked the compression rings due to overheating ( she was built for stopstreet to stopstreet not for 11 round continious high rev racing) and she started breathing, so I had to tear down, I found that the piston tops(combustion chambers) were heavily milled down by the previous builder and decided to put in a new set of pistons to get back to original cr of 8.6:1, now not that I would put her back on the track again  , but to get back to my original post if 1.25:1 rockers and racing springs would be beneficial and easy to fit.
Will fit trigger system and run less boost of course.

Any comments?
