Does the Karmann Ghia require a voltage drop to the coil or take a full 12V.

It takes a full 12v if it has the original 3-4 ohm coils.
If the coil has less resistance than 3 ohms it needs a ballast or some kind of dwell time control.
Given the ~20 feet of wire and going through the switch etc it will probably have 8-9v under load.
I still suggest powering ignition using a engine compartment mounted fused relay powered from alternator or starter power... with the switch just controlling it.
That applies to GM ignition switches too.
You have the chance to do it right, that is doing it right.

zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
