What's the best Deck Lid and Engine Compartment Seal

Post by rrb6699 »

I was testing out my fibreglassing job in a heavy rainstorm and I started having water come in to the floor.

the next day I looked and looked to see how I possibly missed an area to allow as much water inside. I touched up a few spots & even took all the wheels off and fibreglassed up under any area I suspected. needless to say, I really didn't find anything significant, but, this Bug should float now!

Well, since I'm new to the bug game here, I didn't realize the role a good hood seal plays. since I didn't have one at all I'm going to assume if you don't have one you will get significant amount of water into the cabin.

So.... Looking to buy new seals for my 1972 Beetle.
The Mexican seal design (see link) seems like it would fit more snug than the flat-designed seals.

is this true? should I use this design?

thanks,

still lookin for input on front hood seals. looking at some sites im not sure what im getting. I need the seal to come across under the front windshield part of the decklid. this is a 1972 Beetle 111.

will the standard oem seal work and does it include the part that goes across under the windshield? should I buy the Mexican seal too to make sure I get a really tight seal or will the standard oem seal keep water out. it doesnt look like it will.
