2276 combo questions

Post by tobiism »

Hello! Been a long time since ive been here. A couple of days ago I got a great deal on a brand new set of 044 DRD hand ported L6's back before he had the CNC doing all the work.
Here is the combo and I'm trying to figure out what cam to use. I want a fun weekend warrior car that I could easily drive to San Diego from AZ.
DRD 044 L6 42x37 heads with match ported big beef IDF manifolds with 48IDF's
82x94
1 5/8 merged header with turbo muffler
010 distributor triggering MSD ignition
fully prepped AS41 or CB aluminum case
fully doghouse cooling(all tin) with additional fan-assisted cooler if necessary
compression open will decide with cam (I am not afraid of high compression if parts work together)
deep sump
26mm pump
ALL Hoover mods done to the case/rockers, etc.
CB 28mm lightweight lifters
I have every size of ratio rocker at my disposal.
chambers are standard bathtub 044 chambers
I will have an Innovate wideband mounted to the dash to tune the engine.
Car is a '67 Type 1 with stock gearing.
Any initial get-me-close thoughts on jetting? Vents, jets, e-tubes, etc?
Thoughts on cam?
Thanks!!!
Matt

ISKY 1010 -
.396 lift (with stock rockers, I use 1:25 for more) 329 deg duration, 282 duration @.050

Low end sucks, but you will love top end!

I would call Darren at DRD and let him know what you have and your expectations are and he should provide the info that you require.
Good Luck

However it's done, that's a lotta motor for a stock `67 trans....if you haven't yet upgraded that substantially, you'll be doing it very soon

What jets/emulsion tubes/venturis do the 48IDFs have now?

As far as a cam is concerned, I'd think something on the vacinity of 295-302 adv duration and .500-.600 lift would work well and stay together for some time. Cams such as engle fk8 and web 86b come to mind. A friend of mine used to daily drive his 2276 48 Ida berg ported heads vw bug all over the valley back in the day. He used the fk-8 and it worked perfectly for his setup. He also took it on a few trips to California if I recall correctly.

Thanks everyone, decided to go with the FK45.
Hey Marc I'm planning for the tranmission to be changed out later this year.
I cant remember what jets are in it, but I will update as soon as I do.
