Side Vent Windows

Post by lowpro1984 »

Hi everyone I asked this in my last post but no one answerd back. My side vent windows are kind of rusted out and I was wondering if they are in a frame that I can just take out or do I need to do some welding work?? In the middle of the windows at the bottem and the top where they mount its really rusty so I dont trust the motuning of them. If there is no frame I will just cut off the posts and put in some camper crank windows.

Thank You,
Chris.

Side Vent Windows

I've got same problem on my 73. On two of mine the bottom piviots are rusted in to. I've been told that if you remove the solid window, there will be a tab sticking out of the vent frame at the top and bottom. Take the screws out of the tabs and the pull the vent towards the back of the bus and tilt it out. Can anyone that has removed one confirm that proceedure?

I have aquired two parts buses and I plan to replace the left rear window/vent combo with a solid glass from one of the buses and the two center window/vents with camper windows from the other bus. Before I start though . . . are all 68 and up windows the same size? The bus with the solid glass has no VIN plates. I'm guessing it's about a 68 or 69. The one with camper windows is a 72. The one I want to put these windows in is a 73. Am I going to run into any problems?

Hi Zen,The windows and openings are the same from 68-79.When pulling out the side vent windows,If the body of the bus is rusted badly, you can be rest-assured the vent frames are rusted beyond use.Pulling them out,and replacing them is pretty straight forward, but unless you have some good replacements on hand I wouldn't start the project.Paul
