exhaust configuration

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

You got it, porsche w/091. There is a frame bracket right at he bell housing where the motor bolts up...do I need further support for the engine? What is a "AL looking shock's mount" ? I can be a little slow at times. Tell us more about this "checker" side of you we keep hearing about.

I'm not on my normal older computer so I was having troubles editing with a newer version of Photoshop; wanted to see just what was there.

I finally figured out how to do copy then edit your photo but by the next time I need it I'll probably forget  .

What I couldn't see was the post off the second hoop so that you got the loading to transfer into the basic frame. I would have expected to see something else but this should work. The front rear hoop is something different.

This is another way to accomplish things.

"AL" is the symbol for Aluminum, sorry about that. SS and CRES are for Stainless Steel. CRES stands for Corrosion RESistant Steel.

Got two rails I am going to take a bunch of pix for you tomorrow. One you partly have seen in the last post but these are somewhat older rails that have been updated.

A support for the exhaust is a good idea, especially if any tail wagging will be done. Those shops are killer.

Yeah, most of the ones that are ridden hard have the exhaust supported. Saw another one that was powered by a Rover V6 (the old AL Buick V6 that Rover used. More cubes' and some other changes. Loud but supported exhaust.

There is also a Buick AL V6 that I see every-so-often.

I used to have a Type 4 engine with stock crank mount fan and shrouds and a Tri-Mil header. The header was modified by cutting off the tubes after the 2-bolt flanges and extensions about 5" long were added. That had a 2" Turbo muffler on it with a support to the frame from the muffler so the header wouldn't break.

So I ordered the exhaust stub pipe adapters from LowBudget.com and never got the part. They wouldn't respond to any of my e-mails and wouldn't pick up the phone. Fortunately PayPal gave me my money back. I hope there wasn't some kind of tragic event causing this issue however if there wasn't, then this outfit does bad business.

That sucks! I have a set that I will probably not use. I'd be willing to sell them to you if you're still interested in going that direction.

Keep it up, it sounds like you are doing good and learning hard stuff.

On the post about the donets (viewtopic.php?f=49&t=151297) I saw the replay of the episode of Bitchen Rides and it was about the 45 minutes into the show that they got into the donut exhaust build. The template made from cardboard had lines on it that WERE used for cutting the donut with the chosen line was a heavy line. Since they were going around the steering there ended up using several of the cardboard sections to form the whole "joggle" then they were taped together for tack welding. Not sure how long the piece of exhaust ended up being but it wasn't short.
