Speedster Turbo EFI

Post by boat880 »

I'm finally getting around to installing my CB Performance Turbo EFI (Quick Tune) system in my IM Roadster. Question I have is where to mount the ECU? CB Performance has been zero help. They keep telling me to mount it under the rear seat. Apparently they've never seen a Roadster/Speedster.

The only options I can think of would be to extend the wiring harness and mount it under the dash or in the trunk. I could mount it behind the seats but I'd rather not have it out in the open. Perhaps I could mount it in the cavity above the transaxle. I'd appreciate your ideas.

Opinion: I like your idea of keeping it in the rear making the electronics closer to the source and less chances of dam(n)age by accidents of many various kinds.

My blue buggy has it mounted more traditionally and that being up front but then while the electronics are minimal access is a different matter. You either inject yourself in front of the seats and slither up under the dash or take the hood off the front of the car (glass buggy) for access.

The black buggy will be in the rear hopefully making the wiring shorter but having an easier access.

My opinions are worth much less than you paid for them.

If it was mine I would extend the wiring and put in in the trunk.

I have my ECU installed up front under the hood in my buggy. What I like about it is it's easy to work on and I can see the connectors and the screen printing on the relay board.
If you are at a mid life age it would be better to make it easily accessible rather than stuffed in a tight dark corner.
I just ran a large harness along the passenger side tunnel and up the firewall to under the hood.

When I wanted to hide the coil pack on my buggy I made a form and built a fiberglass box with a flange , cut a hole in the firewall of the body and glassed in the box that I formed. If there isn't enough room under the rear seat you could build something like that in the firewall or in the rear cargo area. You really need to keep the computer out of anywhere that is subject to moisture or debris so I wouldn't mount it underneath the car.

I have my ecu in a storage box in the luggage tray of my manx. It's about the same place as ''under the backseat'' so the stock wirkng loom fits good lenght-wise.

It's protected by lid with a lock

Thank you all for your excellent suggestions. Once I get everything installed I'll likely be back seeking your advice on how to get it tuned! Thanks again.
