I just finished the conversion from N/A to Turbo on my buggy.
Specs:
1904cc
110 Cam
8:1 compression
Ford truck inline fuel pump
Injectors from Ford Escort 17 lb.
Regulator from Ford Escort - references manifold. May not raise pressure with boost.
Turbo from Subaru (IH VRF-29)
After a quick trip around the neighbor hood, and gently getting into 7PSI boost, injector duty cycle is at 160% (Not Good).
Where is the best place to start to address fuel issues? What is the order of importance?
I am thinking:
First: Regulator
Second: Injectors
Third: Pump
Or, do I need to install a gauge on the rail to see what my fuel is really doing?

17 lbs injectors are pretty small for turbo. On a quick calculator it would hold you to about 120hp at 80% duty.CBDZ wrote:I just finished the conversion from N/A to Turbo on my buggy.

I would then look at you pressure regulator. You can get a pretty cheap on on amazon. That’s rising rate.
What’s your fuel pressure? I know you don’t have a gauge but do you know the pump spec?

Re: Not Enough Fuel - Where to Start?
You need 43.5 lbs. fuel pressure at idle or anywhere below 101 kpa.
You need a rising rate fuel regulator. There is nothing wrong with the stock German pressure regulator if you can find one cheap. I've been running one for 7 years and never had an issue.
You also need injectors that are sized for the hp you think you might put out....then add 100% to that so you don't have to buy another pair.
Seriously......I'm running 60 lb./hr injectors on my 1679 cc engine which is good for about 480 hp.
Your 17 lb./hr. injectors are good for about 96 hp at 100 % DC according to the calculator I use.
You should look for 32-45 lb./hr. injectors and reconfigure your ECU for them.
I can see why you run out of fuel on boost......those injectors can't even supply the engine N/A. Don't boost it until you get new injectors.
Quick.....buy this regulator...it's cheap enough and will work great for you.....just hook the fuel lines to it and give it a vac/boost signal somewhere under the TB and you are good to go.

Re: Not Enough Fuel - Where to Start?
Clonebug - I snatched up that regulator. Thanks for the tip. I'm looking for a set of injectors that match the recommended flow rate. Do you know of any vehicles that come with those, O.E.M. that I might be able to source at the local junkyard? (yes, I am cheap).

Volvo injectors are the ones I grabbed.

I’m sure there are others as well. Though you can get eBay injectors for relatively cheap and flow tested. But I get saving cash.

Re: Not Enough Fuel - Where to Start?
A Volvo 940 turbo has 32# injectors in it. I used a set the first time but they are low Z injectors.
I would find a set of high Z injectors if you can.
eBay has cheap injectors and people have had good success with them.
I still have my 45# injectors but am holding on to them for now.
Four 32# injectors will support about 230 hp at 100% DC.
I would look for at least 42# or higher with your size engine.
