I think that you are confusing the BMW bearing with the type 4 size.

The type one bug crank main bearing journal diameter is 55mm (2.165"), the type 4 is 60mm (2.362") and this particular Ford journal is 2.750" (69.85mm).

Typically most people that use an "adapter" bearing to fit a type one crank with type 4 center main into a stock type one case use a BMW bearing that is a thinner shell then the stock type one bearing. This allows the 60mm center main to fit with no machining to the case other than creating a couple of notches for the tabs on the bearing. Another method would be to line bore the case to the larger type 4 bearing. There is also a Chrysler bearing that has the same journal size (60mm).

Since the stock waterboxer crank uses 60mm at the flywheel (#1 bearing), 55mm at the center (#2 bearing) and 55mm at the cam gear (#3 bearing), I had Jose at DPR make mine 60mm at each end and the almost 70mm in the center.

The Ford main bearing compaired to a stock waterboxer bearing...

One last thing to keep in mind is that a lot of stock replacement bearings are not of the best quality. However, in some of the domestic V8 stuff, you can get higher performance racing bearings. Hence why I went with 2.100" Chevy rod journal sizes. VERY good bearings are available in that size!

That is the question, I know the BMW allows 55mm main journals w/o huge effort. I also suspected domestic support might be better but lack any hands on

I also find it funny that the most common not flat head engine in '32 fords is made by chevy because it is cheaper and more powerful.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

I agree, You should see the reaction of a Ford engine in a Chev. I'm not sure but I think there have been more than a few guys (and girls) that have had heart attacks and croaked the few times when this has happens   .

I come from the time when this started to happen. I started out with "Babbitt Beaters" aka "Shove it or leave it lays" (Chev 6s mostly) but the early Chevs cars and in-line engines were so poorly designed (dip oiling for the rods) or the cars had so much wood and/or thin metal in them that they weren't used that much (do a search on the history of GM starting with Durant in about 1910. A lot of the things that happened in the hostile take-overs are not talked about in the write ups either). The Chev V8 engines were light weight and ran fast but the oiling system failed quickly until it was finally figured out how to solve the oiling (and other) problems.

My dad always said he would love to do a 57 chevy nomad or something like that with a ford FE big block under the hood, just to piss people off ๐Ÿ˜‚

Or maybe a "Shotgun" engine. It was funny though, the Shotgun caught on over the hemi design in rails, for a while, but it wasn't too long before it was maxed out.

It has been an interesting 50 or so years in engine development. Look how far the lowly pancake VW engine has come since electronics came into the picture and it isn't just the engine and trans updates either.

A single overhead cam hemi engine.

Lee

Correction: I said dual overhead cam but it should be a single overhead cam.

Snicker   True but think of it this way... a German car should have a German engine (preferably a VW) but I am halfway there by using a modified 2.8 (Ford German) Cologne engine.

The miss-match of engines vs. the car is an old trick and I doubt it will ever stop. People are also putting electric engines there and having good luck with that too.

A few times yes! Time, money and the Zombie Apocalypse (...er, I mean virus) has all contributed to not too much advancement yet, but hopefully before the end of the season, I will be able to turn the boost up a little. IF not, then by next season.

On my website ( https://badbugracing.com/ ) I have a link to my YouTube channel, but here is one of my better ones from this season so far...

So.... as it turns out, I am in the process of upgrading to a larger turbo (Most likely a GT4094R with billet wheel) a Fuel Tech FT550, smart coils, bigger injectors and bigger fuel pump. Also, 4 channel EGT & exhaust back pressure sensor. Plus a few other things....
