Air under pressure is the same as NA air. Less restriction the better. However boost hides a lot of trangressions.

I alway approach a motor as an 'air pump' the quicker I can get the air "in & out" the better

Speaking of turbo heads, if anyone is interested, I’ve put my SL-1/Shag ported turbo heads up for sale. Just freshened up and are ready to go!

Selling because I’m looking to go bigger with my new squishy pistons.

Re: Who are the go to head porters for turbo heads
Thanks for all the input and insight guys. slowsixtyduece Bad timing on the SL-1 racing heads you are selling. I am about 3 weeks into waiting for a set of Shags turbo prepped and ported heads in the CCs I was after. I found out from Shag that the combustion chamber for 92mm thick wall cylinders With the 94 head size would be different than 94mm.
I am also getting a set of match ported IDF Big Beef intake manifolds with injector bungs. I went with straits instead of offsets as per Shag
Going to mess around going to a single throttle body and put my VW Speed Shop Dual 42 mm throttle bodies on the shelf for a while. Was thinking I will make a tube plenum type set up that will bolt to the tops of the IDF manifolds then plumb that to a T after the air/water intercooler.
Sure helps having an open engine bay Baja bug for fitment haha. I kinda like it all hanging out there for god and grandma to see anyways haha. It's Kind of a ridiculous High Tech redneck car. Has been a lot of fun and gets used a lot and hard. And that is probably why it gets broken and reinvented so much hehe
Again thanks for all the input and advice and I apologize for not chiming in more This keyboard stuff takes me forever to decide what to say and then there is the two finger typing thing

Re: Who are the go to head porters for turbo heads
I've been two finger typing for about 27 years now and actually can type pretty fast......keep practicing...
Edit...
I just noticed your sig......when did you break your piston ring lands?????
Any idea on what happened???
It's always good to see what might have been the cause and fix on these issues.... I know it's hard to write down the bad but a build is not a build without the parts that don't work.....
I've been at this turbo thing for 11 years now.....it is not easy but it is a lot of fun....My build is a story in itself........broken parts are a fact of learning.

Re: Who are the go to head porters for turbo heads
I believe I had damaged one of the pistons when it was still NA by having a lose connection for an injector for that cylinder. I could see it going lean on the wide band gauge now and then not seeming to have any rhyme or reason on what was a decent tune I thought. After I had gotten it figured out that cylinder had less and less compression and more and more blow by Still bolted the turbo on and had a blast with it for the season I guess that was more than that poor old piston could take The other 3 cylinders and pistons looked good and the broken ring land was on # 3 same one as low compression

Re: Who are the go to head porters for turbo heads
Adding to the list of turbo head porters is Steve and Greg Tim’s of Performance Workshop. I ended up ordering a set of their stage 2 street turbo ported heads, 42x37 valves. They cut back the exhaust valve guide, open the exhaust ports a bit more than their NA ports, and include manifold match porting for free if you send them your manifolds.
The only draw back I see is that they cannot squeeze as much CCs out of their 043 head castings as CB and other head porters can - I think 60-61cc is about max. So you will either need to be ok with higher CR, bump up the deck height, dish pistons or have them sort of semi-hemi the chamber.
I had a pair of their stage 1 plus heads on a 1915 NA that ran hard and fast while staying cool, and I expect these heads to do the same but produce 2x as much power.

Re: Who are the go to head porters for turbo heads
Good info for future reference slowsixtyduece For myself I ordered a set of Turbo prepped heads from Shag Leon he seemed to know what I was after with my thick wall cylinders and matches the combustion chamber with the CCs I wanted. I did talk with With the Tims at Performance workshop and decided against the smaller semi hemi chamber they offered
