Re: The Aufgeladen Ghia
I plan on saving up for a new transmission... I've already had the transmission out once, and converted my 68 (long axle) transmission to short axle to allow for wider rims in the rear. Hence my 17X7 faux, I mean fuch rims.
Speaking to another local VW enthusiast (former employee of CB Performance), he laughed at me when I said I would eventually purchase a Freeway Flier. I'm no expert, but if others have specific gear ratio pointers, I'm all ears!

I can't imagine that a 1776 with AMR is gonna make much more than 120whp. I think the main thing you'll want will be a little more gear. This is assuming its revving higher than you'd like already while on the freeway. A stock transmission will last a long time if you respect it. Don't launch the car like a racecar, it's not one. Slammed cars rub inner fender wells when hitting little bumps, launching is like hitting a large bump with your rear end.
Surprising that the short axles worked well for you with those rims. I had to run 1 inch spacers on my short axles to fit my 17" brms on mine. And they still barely cleared on the inside.

Hey Chip. Yeah, you are correct. I am running 1/2" spacers, but it does clear and only rubs when slammed completely (parked). I drive with the car aired completely up, looks stock height. Don't have rubbing of any sort. If I lower to cruise height, it will rub if I hit a dip in the road. So I've grown accustomed to driving it aired up all the way, safe and no rubbing. My plan is to back to static suspension eventually.

Re: The Aufgeladen Ghia
Good news is, the engine is complete. Roy from Mofoco sent me a video of it running on a stand.
Bad news is... My modified internal fuel pump has failed. I have an internal leak. These pumps are not designed to be modified they way I went about it. The problem is the location I installed it. If I were to center it behind the sending unit, it would have been fine. Back to the drawing board. I will use this tanks sending unit mounting position to simply make a new mount. I am purchasing a new tank to start from scratch. I was sooo close. Oh well, can't win them all.

Could you make an offset bracket that would put the pump over where it needs to be? Maybe weld it to your tank mount?

Re: The Aufgeladen Ghia
I have thought about doing this. But am afraid the extreme offset would have the same outcome. After cutting into my tank, and seeing your tank, I was nervous about the efficiency of the pump. Your method is by-far the best in my opinion. I stated it before, it was very difficult to mount my pump where it might work... and it didn't. I will be purchasing a new tank and more or less following your installation.

I put it there so the sock would sit in the little "sump" at the bottom of the original tank. So far so good.

Don't forget to keep in mind the fuel sender cable. Mine barely worked.
I may be redoing mine too. Although i would only be replacing the tank for a 12 gallon one. With E85 mine doesn't last very long before i run out.

Mine is just a wire... Your looks to be the mechanical type? Just got the new tank... It's a cheap Chinese piece of crap. Sending it back to Jbugs. First time I've been disappointed by them.

Yes mine is mechanical. You should be good to go with an electric sender. I always had good luck with jbugs too.

New tank on order... How are of your in-line pumps doing? Any complaints? Thinking of simply welding a bung for an AN6 fitting for a return line. Thoughts?

I did mine to get it up and running but I would love to redo mine to in tank just so it’s not so noticeable.

Re: The Aufgeladen Ghia
I'm running the same used 94 Volvo Turbo fuel pump I started with in 2013.
It has another 36,000 plus miles on it on top of the Volvo miles.
I've never had an issue with it being loud or giving problems in all the miles I've traveled.
It's pretty simple to put a T on the bottom of the tank and run through a prefilter...to the pump and through another filter, then loop back to the tank on the Tee.

Ok... So, since this tank is junk (have a spare mount now, just have to cut it out), I decided to use it as a template. I have centered the pump, directly above the lowest point. This will fix my problem, although I'm out $200 for the failed attempt. I will say this, although it failed, it was air tight. I have also fabricated a new gasket out of 1/4" closed cell foam. I suppose I could just create a cover for the original hole.

Air tight is nice. But was it gas tight?! My rubber gasket looks to have failed in mine. Or maybe my install failed. The clear coat on top of my tank is peeling so something is up, but i haven't looked into it yet.

Re: The Aufgeladen Ghia
Question: Could "air tight" cause a vacuum problem when trying to pump out the liquid? Not sure on my part.
