VintageSpeed Exhausts & O2 sensor location

Post by jamesbissland »

This is aimed at those running any of the various VintageSpeed exhausts..

How do you find your O2 sensor readings from the locations provided? Especially around idle and cruise...

Has anyone else had issues / inaccurate readings?

What have you done to fix this issue?

Are the newer EL SS143 and Merged Comp better?

Cheers

I'm not running one of those exhausts. Are you saying you're having issues or what exactly? Where are you mounting your O2 sensor or are you trying to get an idea of where to put it?

I've run the a higher-flow pea shooter style exhaust for years (which is essentially what those VintageSpeed systems are) and no issues. Mine is mounted at the 3-4 collector just before the muffler.

Im looking to buy one, but have heard rumours that because the O2 sensor location is at one end or the other and they have quite a large volume in the can they have some issues reading true at idle and low in the power range.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had first hand experience with this, rather than going on word of mouth.

Cheers mate

I had one with the bung in the center of the muffler causing wacky AFR readings. I moved it to one the number pipe right before muffler. Then ECU started working much better.

Thanks for the reply!
What model VS exhaust are you running?
Thanks :)

Any box style muffler is going to be poor when it comes to O2 sensor placement you''ll either get very slow
reaction to mixture change rendering the system virtually useless or you'll end up putting the sensor in a primary taking a reading from one cylinder only
and slow reaction because you only get one reading per cycle.
Not to mention the poor performance compared to a merged
