First time drag build.
Hello everyone, I have a idea in my head but don't know quite how to make it reality. I have a 1974 standard Beetle that I want to build into a street legal drag car. One of the main purposes to make it street legal is I want to participate in events like Hot Rod Drag Week and Rocky Mountain Drag Week so the car needs to be able to drive long distances and be able to perform consistently and reliably (I know that's kind of a tall order). I know there are always pitfalls with high performance vehicles so I have set my expectations at a reasonable level I feel. The engine I plan on building is a 1915cc dual port with dual 48mm IDF carbs and a turbo. Not sure how to go with a transaxle I figured I would consult Rancho or the like for building the transaxle, I figure it will need to be purpose built to be able to run decent in the 1/4 mile. I chose a 1915cc displacement in the hopes that keeping a stock size crank would offer a strong foundation and increase reliability. I will be choosing a cam and heads to compliment the air flow from the carbs and turbo, not sure how to pick heads yet but I'm still researching. Any experienced input would be appreciated, I know the basics of how to build an engine just not the finer points on choosing parts to compliment each other and be competitive.

Hit me up at the shop, We have done Drag Week twice and RMRW once. We are about to head out to Florida for Sick Week so we have a little experience doing "Drag and Drives" in a 600Hp VW Street Car

OP, Poke your head into the forced induction forum and read up on clonebug. He has elevated his engine to something like 200 HP at the wheels. Pretty impressive for a 1641. AND he built it all himself.

Yep! Also did some research into standalone engine management systems that don't cost a fortune so I have a basis of a idea I want to build.
